    • An apparatus for noise suppression has a converter for converting an input signal into a frequency-domain, an SNR calculator for determining a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) using the frequency-domain signal, a spectral gain generator for determining a spectral gain based on the SNR, a spectral gain modification unit for correcting the spectral gain to determine a modified spectral gain, a multiplier for weighting the frequency-domain signal using the modified spectral gain, and an inverse converter for converting the weighted frequency-domain signal into a signal in a time-domain signal. In the apparatus for noise suppression, it is preferable to calculate a weighted noisy speech power spectrum from the power spectrum of noisy speech and the power spectrum of estimated noise thereby determining an SNR.

    • In a noise suppression apparatus for suppressing noise contained in a speech signal, the speech signal is converted to a first vector of spectral speech components and a second vector of spectral speech components identical to the first vector. A vector of noise suppression coefficients is determined based on the first vector spectral speech components. A vector of estimated noise components is determined based on the first vector spectral speech components, and a speech section correction factor and a nonspeech section correction factor are calculated from the estimated noise components and the first-vector spectral speech components to produce a combined correction factor. The noise suppression coefficients are weighted by the combined correction factor to produce a vector of post-suppression coefficients. The second vector spectral speech components are weighted by the post-suppression coefficients to produce a vector of enhanced speech components.

    • An apparatus of this invention is a speech processing apparatus that acquires pseudo speech from a mixture sound including desired speech and noise. The speech processing apparatus includes a first microphone that inputs a first mixture sound including desired speech and noise and outputs a first mixture signal, a second microphone that is opened to the same sound space as that of the first microphone, inputs a second mixture sound including the desired speech and the noise at a ratio different from the first mixture sound, and outputs a second mixture signal, a first sound collector including a concave surface that collects the first mixture sound to the first microphone, a second sound collector including a concave surface that collects the second mixture sound to the second microphone and disposed in a direction different from the first sound collector, and a noise suppression circuit that suppresses an estimated noise signal based on the first mixture signal and the second mixture signal and outputs a pseudo speech signal. With this arrangement, it is possible to, in a single sound space where desired speech and noise mix, collect the desired speech and the noise, correctly estimate the noise, and reconstruct pseudo speech close to the desired speech.
