    • An optical head device may include a polarization conversion element disposed on a common optical path for guiding a first and a second laser beams to a common objective lens for converting the first and the second laser beams to a circularly polarized light from a linearly polarized light, and a ½-wavelength plate disposed on an optical path of the first laser beam from a first laser light source to the common optical path for adjusting a polarization plane direction of the first laser beam. A polarization plane direction of the first laser beam incident on the polarization conversion element from the first laser light source is adjusted by the ½-wavelength plate in a direction so that the linearly polarized light is converted into the circularly polarized light.

    • An optical head device may include a first laser light source, a second laser light source, a first parallel-plate type beam splitter for guiding a first and a second laser beams to a common objective lens, a second parallel-plate type beam splitter for guiding the second laser beam to the common objective lens, an aberration correction lens disposed between the first laser light source and the first beam splitter for correcting an aberration generated when the first laser beam transmits through the first beam splitter; and a light source unit which is structured by fixing the first laser light source and the aberration correction lens to a common holder in a state that a relative position between the first laser light source and the aberration correction lens is previously set.

    • An electric motor comprises a substrate, a bearing holder rigidly fitted to the substrate, a shaft held by a bearing in the bearing holder and a rotor rigidly fitted to the shaft and arranged vis-a-vis a side of the substrate to rotate around the shaft. It also comprises a stationary member fitted to the bearing holder for holding components other than the motor included in an apparatus. Such an arrangement is particularly advantageous for a video tape recorder as it allows a simple and common standard to be implemented for mounting a tape feeding system, a signal retrieving system and other systems of the video tape recorder so that those components may be mounted with improved accuracy. Moreover, with such an arrangement, the number of components of a video tape recorder may be reduced to enhance manufacturing productivity and lower manufacturing cost.

    • A motor comprises a rotor having an index signal generating portion on a rotor magnet and a magnetic resistance sensor having a magneto-sensitive surface. The sensor is positioned on a stator of the motor facing the index signal generating portion of the rotor with a predetermined gap. The sensor functions to sense an index signal in the magnetic field generated by the index signal generating portion during the rotation of the rotor. A speed detection circuit is included for detecting the speed of the motor based on the detection results of the magnetic resistance sensor. The index generating portion forms a magnetic area in which a magnetic flux intensity in a plane orthogonal to the principal magnetic flux of the index signal generating portion is greater than the rated sensitivity of the magnetic resistance sensor. The magnetic resistance sensor is positioned on the magnetized area such that its magneto-sensitive surface is parallel to the plane. The magnetic resistance sensor has an output which is in a saturated state.
