    • A multiple-phase Stirling cycle refrigeration apparatus includes four cylinders accommodating respective pistons and arranged within a cylindrical crank case on a circle concentric therewith. The four cylinders and their pistons are suitably dimensioned, the pistons reciprocated with a phase difference of 90.degree. separating one piston from the next adjacent, and the cylinders suitably interconnected to produce a very low temperature station and a moderately low temperature station, the former disposed at the center of the crank case and surrounded by the latter to faciliate the extraction of two temperature levels and to provide particuarly low temperatures in the very low or cryogenic temperature region.

    • The present invention provides a regenerator which has uniform performance and extremely high productivity and can keep performance and reliability as a regenerator, as well as a regenerative material used in the regenerator, in order to solve technical problems in mass production. A mat type regenerative material is woven into a cloth shape by using flexible and very long fine wires (C1, C2) made of one or a plurality of heat storage materials having a high specific heat per unit volume in the operating temperature range, for longitudinal wire members (C1, C2); and fine wires (D3) comprising a core wire consisting either of a single filament (D1) of at least one of ceramic fiber, carbon fiber, and synthetic resin fiber which have a higher hardness than that of the longitudinal wire members, a proper elasticity, and an extremely low heat conductivity, or of a filament composite (D2) formed by bundling a number of the same filaments as the single filament into one body with a fixing agent such as synthetic resin or glass, and a polymeric synthetic resin covering the core wire, for transverse wire members (D3).

    • A pulse tube refrigerating system comprising a compressing cavity for compressing a working fluid, a heat radiator connected with the compressing cavity and a regenerator connected with the heat radiator. A pulse tube is provided and connected with the heat radiator through a refrigerating section. The pulse tube is connected through a heat exchanger and a flow regulating valve with an expansion cavity which is operable with a phase difference with respect to the compressing cavity, whereby the working fluid from the compressing cavity is cooled by the heat radiator and passed through the refrigerating section into the pulse tube, the working fluid in the pulse tube being compressed by the working fluid from the refrigerating section to be increased in temperature and passed to the heat exchanger to radiate heat.

    • A Stirling cycle machine comprises a normal temperature housing having a rotor disposed therein to define normal temperature chambers therein. The machine further includes a high or low temperature housing having a rotor disposed therein to define high or low temperature chambers therein. Passages are provided between the normal temperature chambers and the high or low temperature chambers by means of a heat exchanger and a regenerator which are connected to the rotors to rotate therewith in unison. The passages in the regenerator is connected with the high or low temperature chambers through a plurality of passages by use of slide valves formed in the high or low temperaturehousing.
