    • An engine assembly includes a plenum member having an inlet opening and an outlet opening defined therein. The engine assembly further includes an air source in fluid communication with the inlet opening. The engine assembly still further includes a fuel combustion assembly having an engine block having a piston cylinder defined therein, an engine head secured to the engine block and having an intake port defined therein, and a piston which translates within the piston cylinder. The piston, the piston cylinder, and the engine head cooperate so as to define a combustion chamber. The engine assembly further includes a gaseous fuel supply valve which controls the amount of gaseous fuel advanced from a gaseous fuel source to the first intake conduit. The engine assembly still further includes an intake conduit interposed between the outlet opening and the intake port. The engine assembly still further includes a port oil injector operable to inject lubricating oil through an oil opening in the intake conduit and an intake valve positionable between an open position and a closed position. The lubricating oil lubricates the intake valve as the lubricating oil advances from the intake conduit to the combustion chamber during an intake stroke of the engine assembly, and combusts so as to ignite the mixture of natural gas and air in the combustion chamber during a compression stroke of the engine assembly. A method of operating the engine assembly is also disclosed.

    • A method of operating an engine assembly having a cylinder assembly which defines a combustion chamber is disclosed. The method includes the steps of performing an intake stroke of the cylinder assembly and advancing a conditioning fuel into the combustion chamber during the intake stroke performing step. The method further includes the steps of advancing a gaseous fuel into the combustion chamber during the intake stroke performing step and performing a compression stroke of the cylinder assembly after the intake stroke performing step. The method yet further includes the steps of advancing a pilot fuel into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke performing step and combusting the pilot fuel in the combustion chamber during the compression stroke performing step so as to ignite the conditioning fuel and the gaseous fuel. The gaseous fuel and the conditioning fuel are mixed in the combustion chamber prior to the pilot fuel advancing step so as to facilitate ignition of the gaseous fuel in the combustion chamber.

    • An internal combustion engine includes a precombustion member which has a number of first ignition orifices defined therein. The precombustion member further has a precombustion chamber defined therein. The precombustion member is positioned relative to the head of the engine such that the precombustion chamber is in fluid communication with the engine's main combustion chamber via the first ignition orifices. The internal combustion engine further has a spark plug for igniting a gaseous fuel. The spark plug includes an encapsulating member which has a number of second ignition orifices defined therein. The encapsulating member defines a plug combustion chamber. The spark plug further includes a center electrode and a ground electrode which are both positioned within the plug combustion chamber. The encapsulating member is positioned relative to the precombustion member such that the plug combustion chamber is in fluid communication with the precombustion chamber via the second ignition orifices. The encapsulating member shelters the spark generated by the spark plug from turbulence within the precombustion chamber and the main combustion chamber. Such a configuration facilitates use of leaner gaseous fuel mixtures relative to fuel combustion assemblies which have heretofore been designed.
