    • A tile-shaped composite element is described in which a ceramic tile serving as the visible tile is glued to a further ceramic tile serving as the base tile. In order to add considerable strength to the two single tiles, thereby substantially improving the sturdiness of the composite element, it is proposed that each tile be provided on the back with a nesting structure and glued together with this nesting structure back-to-back. Since the wall thickness of such a composite element may correspond to the usual wall thickness of shingles or conventional ceramic tiles, extremely thin tiles may be used as the base tile and the visible tile placed thereupon. Because there is a nesting structure on the backside, the tiles may be connected and glued together in such a way that the nesting structures, which generally involve continuous straight grooves and ridges, positively engage to lock into each other, thereby considerably strengthening the firm cohesion of the tiles and, thus of the composite element.

    • An electrical space heating element having a ceramic body which is provided on the side facing away from the space to be heated with an electrically resistive coating. The space heating element provides a high thermal yield while consuming little electrical power and may be used as an element of design for the periphery of a room. The space heating element may be installed in such a way so that no channels are formed which might force air currents to circulate in the room to be heated. The electrically resistive coating is a layer of a carrier impregnated with nonmetallic particles which have a large specific area, are electrically conductive, and do not substantially vary the electrical conductivity at higher temperatures. The carrier in which the nonmetallic particles are embedded has no greater than poor electrical conductivity. The electrically resistive coating is applied in such a way that it has uniform electrical and thermal conductivity.

    • The invention provides an isolated and purified nucleic acid molecule encoding a Candida albicans sterol methyltransferase (ERG6). Also provided is a C. albicans strain or isolate that has reduced levels of sterol methyltransferase as a result of the disruption of at least one sterol methyltransferase gene. Preferred isolates are more susceptible to a number of sterol synthesis and metabolic inhibitors relative to wild type isolates. Further provided are methods to identify sterol methyltransferase inhibitors and methods to screen for antifungals or metabolic inhibitors which are not normally permeable to the fungal cell.
