    • A three-way valve including a valve housing having a valve chamber and a high pressure fluid supply inlet, high pressure fluid outlet and drain communicating with the valve chamber is disclosed. A movable member is reciprocally received in the valve chamber so as to be reciprocated between first and second positions for selectively fluidically communicating the outlet with either the inlet or drain. A first valve seat is formed in the valve housing and concentrically disposed in the valve chamber for sealing communication between the outlet and drain and a second valve seat is concentrically disposed in a cavity formed in the movable member for sealing communication between the inlet and outlet. A floating pin is received in the movable valve member cavity at a one end of the movable valve member and cooperates with the second valve seat for selectively sealing fluidic communication between the inlet and the outlet. An actuating device is mounted on the valve housing adjacent an end of the movable valve member opposite the floating pin for advancing the movable valve member toward the first position when energized and for allowing the movable valve member to retract to the second position when de-energized.

    • A pressure balanced three-way solenoid valve including a valve housing having a valve chamber and a high pressure fluid supply passage, high pressure fluid outlet passage and drain passage communicating with the valve chamber is disclosed. A movable valve member is reciprocally received in the valve chamber so as to be reciprocated between first and second positions for selectively fluidically communicating the outlet passage with either the supply passage or drain passage. A first valve seat is formed in the valve housing and concentrically disposed in the valve chamber for fluidic communication between the outlet passage and drain passage and a second valve seat is concentrically disposed in a cavity formed in the movable valve member for sealing communication between the supply passage and outlet passages. A floating pin is received in the movable valve member cavity and communicates with the second valve seat for selectively fluidic communication between the supply passage and outlet passage with the floating pin including an impact absorbing element for absorbing the impact of the movable valve member when the movable valve member contacts the floating pin during de-energization of the solenoid. Transitional losses are readily controlled and a high initial closing velocity may be achieved while preventing closing bounce and thus the formation of any leakage path between the floating pin and movable valve member upon de-energization of the solenoid.

    • An aluminum rocker housing (10) is secured to the cylinder head (8) of an internal combustion engine (2) to surround and protect the cylinder valve assemblies (156, 158) and associated rocker arm mechanism. The front face (58) of the rocker housing (10) includes a recessed surface (68) which forms an air intake plenum (60) for receiving pressured air from the engine turbocharger (48). Air intake passageways (84, 86, 88) cast to the rear of the front face (58) communicate with the air intake plenum (60) and simultaneously register with air intake ports (160) formed in the cylinder head (8) to provide a means for distributing air from the air intake plenum (60) to the cylinders (16). A rocker cover (12) molded from plastic is secured to the rocker housing (10) by a plurality of vibration-damping bolt assemblies (13). The rocker cover (12) contains a drip lip (148) to prevent engine lubricants from coming into contact with the rocker cover gasket (14). The rocker cover (12) also includes a means (151) for engaging the gasket (14) to increase the sealing capacity thereof.

    • An interlock is disclosed for permitting only one of a plurality of interrelated valve elements to be operated at one time. A transverse channel is formed in each valve element for alignment with a channel formed in the valve housing when the valve elements are moved to their respective opened positions. When any one valve element is moved to its closed position, camming surfaces formed on the valve element are positioned and shaped to cause a train of end abutting links disposed within the valve and housing channels to be displaced in a manner to lock the remaining valves in their respective open positions. The valve channels and camming surfaces are formed by very simple and inexpensive linear cutting operations thereby allowing the disclosed device to be inexpensively manufactured.
