The packaging configuration also includes a processor subassembly configured for insertion into the processor assembly. The processor assembly is removable from the main chassis without powering down the computer system, and the processor subassembly is removable from the processor assembly without powering down the computer system.

    • The cooling of a heat generating component mounted outside of the main portion of an enclosure that is cooled using an airstream created by an active air handler is disclosed. The invention is preferably used to cool components such as displays that generate heat, but which are mounted outside the enclosure that houses the main electronics package. The disclosed system, permits inlet air to enter via a vent, and a first duct formed by a baffle routes the inlet air along the back of the displays, removing excess heat. The air is then channeled by a second duct to an area adjacent the enclosure. Since the airstream within the enclosure has created a low pressure area, the passive air stream infiltrates the enclosure and mixes with the main airstream. The disclosed system thus cools the remotely mounted components passively, without requiring additional air handlers or diminishing the pressure and velocity within the enclosure.

    • A spring clip for releasably attaching a first member, such as the carrier of a fascia panel cover, to a second member, such as an electric component rack module. The spring clip is anchored to a support plate extending from carrier. The spring clip has two forwardly extending U-shaped spring elements that cooperate with a locking tab and a rearwardly extending U-shaped spring element. Deformation of the forwardly extending spring elements during installation of the spring clip causes the locking tab to snap onto the lower edge of the support plate, thereby firmly anchoring the spring clip to the support plate. A latch extending from the rack module engages the rearwardly extending spring element so as to secure the fascia cover panel to the rack module. Application of a force to the rearwardly extending spring element causes elastic deformation of the forwardly extending spring elements and disengages the locking tab.

    • A connector assembly is provided having a cable end plug with a body adapted to be connected to a cable with a connector part, and at least one outwardly extending flange on the body. A mating receptacle receives the cable end plug. The receptacle has a body with a complementary connector part to the cable end plug connector part. A retention clip is connected to the receptacle body, and includes at least one spring arm extending outwardly therefrom with a distal entry ramp portion, a retaining shoulder portion and a flange receiving portion. A thickness of the flange is approximately equal to a depth of the flange receiving portion so that the retaining shoulder portion engages behind the flange in a connected position of the cable end plug in the mating receptacle. For release, the retaining shoulder can be set at an angle of at least 94° to the flange receiving portion to form a release ramp that allows disengagement when a sufficiently high predetermined release force is applied to the cable end plug. Alternatively, the retaining shoulder is set at about 90° and ejector tabs are provided on the cable end plug to disengage the spring arms.

    • Modular fascia cover assemblies for rack mounted equipment are disclosed. In a system comprised of several pieces of equipment mounted in a standardized rack, vertical spaces typically exist between the components. These spaces can be filled with fascia cover assemblies, and the present invention provides a modular system that permits openings of nearly any width to be filled. The fascia cover assembly is created by choosing a combination from a few standardized modular parts. The fascia cover assemblies disclosed preferably include components such as an operator panel and pull bar that can be included, respectively, at the top and bottom of the assembly. Most preferably, the operator panel is one and one-half units high and the pull bar is one-half unit high. A cover panel that is one unit high is also included. In certain embodiments, a larger cover panel component is also provided that is three units high. The modular panels are assembled on to a frame carrier that is preferably stamped from sheet metal to permit easy and inexpensive fabrication in any number of sizes. In preferred embodiments, the frame carrier and assembled panels are mounted to a rack using spring clips that are attached to the frame carrier.
