When the write frequency falls below a threshold, the disk drive is configured to operate in a low frequency access mode when accessing the disk, wherein a parameter of the disk drive is configured to increase the reliability of the disk drive. When the write frequency rises above a threshold, the disk drive is configured to operate in a high frequency access mode when accessing the disk, wherein the parameter of the disk drive is configured to increase the performance of the disk drive.

摘要： A disk drive is disclosed that utilizes sorted serpentine mapping of data tracks. In one embodiment, a plurality of physical heads of the disk drive is mapped to a plurality of logical heads. The plurality of logical heads is sorted according to the respective data rates of the physical heads, such as in the order of decreasing data rates. Data tracks are mapped using sorted serpentine mapping that utilizes the sorted order of the logical heads. Improved performance can thereby be attained.

When the read frequency of the first LBA exceeds a threshold and the PBA is assigned to a memory segment of the NVSM, first data stored in the memory segment is copied to a data sector of the disk. When a read command is received to read the first LBA, a decision is made to read the first data from one of the NVSM and the disk.
