    • A technique for handling radio link failure in a communication network (10) is provided. A method implementation of this technique comprises the steps of maintaining radio link failure information including the identifier of a user equipment (UE) effected by the radio link failure together with at least one of a time stamp of when the radio link failure was detected and a reference to a cell (C1) which was serving the user equipment (UE) before the radio link failure was detected, receiving reconnection information including an identifier of a reconnected user equipment (UE) effected by a radio link failure after the user equipment (UE) is reconnected to the communication network and correlating the radio link failure information with the reconnection information to obtain a correlation result.

    • In at least one embodiment taught herein, the point in a packet transmission sequence space at which hyper frame numbers are incremented is changed at least temporarily as part of handover processing, where a mobile station (12) is handed over from a source cell to a target cell. More particularly, in at least one embodiment, changing the triggering point, e.g., changing the transmission sequence number at which HFNs are incremented, is done in a manner that delays a next incrementing of the HFN for a radio bearer that was handed over, therefore giving additional time for the mobile station (12) and the handover target base station (16) to ensure synchronization in the face of possible packet losses in the source and/or target cells arising during the handover event.

In one aspect, the improvement in recovery time is achieved by commanding or otherwise causing the user terminal to perform radio link failure (RLF) recovery at a cell that is known to possess the user context, while considering that this cell should yield good radio conditions (if not the best) to the user terminal. A cell may be predefined for use by the user terminal in recovering its radio connection. Based on providing signal strength thresholds to the user terminal, for use in determining whether to use a predefined cell for reconnecting to the network, the user terminal attempts RLF recovery first in the predefined cell. By providing user context to the predefined cell in advance of a recovery attempt by the user terminal, the time for recovery is lessened. Note that the user terminal also may infer which cells are preferred.

    • An object of the present invention is to provide a mechanism for handling a handover in a more efficient way. The invention relates to a method in a mobility controller (180) in a radio access network for preparing a handover.
