Bedstead frames, joints, and connexions.-Mattress frames or the usual side bars are secured to the end frames of bedsteads by means of right-angle brackets d, the depending parts of which are secured to the corner blocks b by nuts f and bolts e and preferably enter recesses therein. The mattress frame is secured to the horizontal member of an angle-bracket by a long bolt, or the angle-iron side rails may be secured by screw bolts m. The form of angle-bracket shown in Fig. 5 has a slot j adapted to pass over the bolt e so that the bracket is vertically adjustable. The cross-rails may be secured by means of removable or fixed brackets on the corner blocks.

Lifts.-Relates to safety-apparatus for lift wells of the kind in which horizontal sliding doors are provided at the various floor levels, and are automatically thrust back by inclines on the cage, and comprises a method of mounting the doors beneath the landings, and a fire-proof construction of door. Fig. 1 shows the lift well, and Fig. 3 is a plan of one of the doors. The lift cage is fitted with a metal frame 3 having two oppositely inclined faces and two vertical faces. The inclined members 6, 7 form guide-rails, upon which flanged rollers 8, mounted on the horizontal doors, travel during the movement of the cage. The doors are mounted in casings 10, and are provided with antifriction rollers at each side and on their upper and lower surfaces. The doors 9 are-pushed forwards by springs 18, which enclose guide-rods 19 and are fixed at their ends to the door 9 and to the casing 10 respectively. The sliding doors are constructed of a rectangular frame of wood or metal, and the part thereof that projects across the well is sheathed with metal plates enclosing asbestos or similar material. The metal frame 3 and the doors 9 are slotted to accommodate the hoisting-cable 17. In a modification, the springs 18 are replaced by tensile springs fixed at their ends to the door 9 and to the front of the casing 10 respectively.
