SOLUTION: The method of operating a screening system includes a step applying an electromagnetic field to a specimen in a region at least partially enclosed by electromagnetic shielding to measure an output from a sensor, wherein the output is induced by an interaction of the electromagnetic field and the specimen. The method also includes a step dislodging trace particles from the specimen within the region, collecting the trace particles, and identifying the trace particles. The method further includes a step evaluating an association of the specimen with a substance based on the measured sensor output and the identified trace particles.

摘要： A screening system 10 (e.g. a kiosk) comprising a region 52 of still air at least partially enclosed by electromagnetic shielding (e.g. walls 28, 30, 32); an electromagnetic sensor for detecting the interaction of an electromagnetic field with a subject in the region; and means of identifying a trace vapour collected from the subject.
