摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a needle coke which can give a graphite electrode excellent in performance such as strength, by using a generated coal tar having a specifying phenanthrene content in producing a needle coke from raw material comprising coal tar generated in the process of dry distillation by adding recycled coal tar to coal charged into a coke oven. SOLUTION: Coal tar or coal tar pitch is added by recycling to coal charged into a coal oven, and the generated coal tar is used as the raw material to produce a needle coke, wherein the coal tar used as the raw material comprises one having a phenanthrene content of 6-10wt.%. An especially preferably coal tar used comprises one satisfying the formula Y>=7.48×X-2.50 [Y is phenantherene content (wt.%); and X is the specific gravity (15/4 deg.C) of coal tar].

CONSTITUTION:Coal tar pitch freed from quinoline-insolubles is mixed with an oligomer of, e.g. polyethylene having an average molecular weight of 400 to 2000 and coked by the delayed coking method. The oligomer serves to accelerate the coking reaction and enhance the rate of increase of the viscosity of the system to thereby inhibit the growth of mesophase and prevent the development of the flow texture of coke. 摘要： PURPOSE:To simply and inexpensively obtain the title pitch which has a high fixed carbon content and a high beta-resin content and generates no mesophase pitch by extracting coal tar pitch with a specific hydrocarbon solvent in a supercritical state of the solvent and removing lightweight fractions. CONSTITUTION:Coal tar pitch (preferably pitch having a softening point of 70 deg.C or below and 0.5-7.0wt.% quinoline-insolubles, obtained by distillation of coal tar secondary produced in the carbonization of coal) and a paraffin or an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent are charged into an extraction zone which is maintained at a temp. from the critical temp. of the solvent to 370 deg.C and a pressure from the critical pressure of the solvent to 100kg/cm G and at a solvent/coal tar pitch weight ratio of 0.5-6.0. The lightweight fractions in coal tar pitch are removed by extraction so that the softening point of the pitch is adjusted to 80-200 deg.C. Thus, binder pitch for carbon material use which has a high fixed carbon content and a high beta-resin content and generates no mesophase pitch can be obtained by an extremely simple and inexpensive means without use of a complex process and a lot of secondary materials.
