    • PURPOSE:To obtain the subject catalyst excellent in polymerization activity by treating a specific solid catalyst component with an organoaluminum com pound and then subjecting the resultant component to the contact treatment with a compound to be a stable anion. CONSTITUTION:The objective catalyst is obtained by supporting a transition metal compound of formula I or II (A, B, A' and B' are ligand; R is a linear saturated hydrocarbon residue, etc.; M is a metal atom selected from groups IV and V of the periodic table; X is a ligand containing a halogen, C, N, O, Si, P or S) on a fine granular solid component having Lewis acidity such as a magnesium halide, treating the resultant solid catalyst component with an organometallic compound such as trimethylaluminum and then subjecting the resultant reactional product of the solid catalyst component with the organometallic compound to the contact treatment with a compound, reactive with the reactional product and providing a stable anion. Furthermore, the molar ratio of the organometallic compound to the transition metal compound used is preferably 1-5000. An olefin is polymerized in the presence of the catalyst to efficiently afford the objective polyolefin.
