摘要： A pigment composition for liquid toner which is prepared by dissolving/dispersing carbon black and a resin in a nonaqueous solvent. One of (1) carbon black containing not more than 10 ppm of grit and not more than 0.1 wt.% of ash, (2) carbon black in which the quotient of the division of the total quantity of oxygen determined on the basis of a 1500 DEG volatile component by the specific surface area is 0.20-0.40 mg/m , and (3) carbon black in which the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in a liquid extracted by using monochlorobenzene is not more than 30 ppm, is used as the carbon black. The pigment composition is manufactured by kneading a pigment and a resin, freeze-pulverizing the resultant product, and then dissolving/dispersing the powder in a nonaqueous solvent. Thus a pigment composition for liquid toner enabling excellent image characteristics, especially, image characterisitics with a sufficiently high printing density, and a pigment composition for liquid toner exerting little influence upon a living body even if it is inhaled and having excellent image characteristics are provided.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment composition hardly causing deficit print density and the turbulence of dot shape and capable of excellently dispersing a pigment in a toner by adding a solvent in which a resin is dissolved into a pigment slurry formed by dispersing the pigment in water and stirring. SOLUTION: This pigment composition for liquid toner containing the pigment and the resin is produced by adding the solvent in which the resin is dissolved into the pigment slurry formed by dispersing the pigment in water and stirring them to shift the pigment to the solvent side, and then removing water or water and the solvent. The resin is dissolved in the solvent and added into the pigment dispersed in water. When the resin dissolved in the solvent is added into a uniform suspension of the pigment and water and stirred, two phases of a resin phase and a water phase are formed. The pigment exists mainly in the water phase at first, and by continuing further stirring, the pigment in the water phase is shifted to the resin phase. The composition containing the pigment and the resin is obtained by removing water or water and the solvent form the mixed system after the pigment is shifted to the resin phase.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of image properties such as resolution, picture density of fogging or the occurrence of scratch on the surface of a photosensitive body by separating and removing coarse materials having particle size equal to or move than a specific value from a toner. SOLUTION: The producing method of liquid toner is by dispersing a pigment and a resin in a carrier and separating and removing the coarse materials having the max. length equal to or more than 5μm from the liquid toner having =5wt.%. Next, a nonaueous solvent (that is a carrier solution) not dissolving the resin is added into the resultant dispersed solution to get a desired pigment concentration and after that, the pigment resin particles are precipitated by a conventional method to obtain the liquid toner having =5μm, preferably 2μm is separated and removed from the toner.

Oxygen functional groups of hydroxyl groups or carbonyl groups and carboxyl groups exist on the particle surface of the carbon black and the resistance in the case where the carbon black is compounded with the resin, etc., varies drastically with the quantity of such groups. If the value of the total oxygen quantity/the specific surface area is below 0.10mg/m , the compatibility with the solvent in a dispersion stage is poor and, therefore, well dispersed liquid toners are not obtainable and even more, the specific resistance of the liquid toners tends to be low. If the value exceeds 0.40mg/m , the compatibility with the resin is poor and eventually the liquid toners of the low printing densities are resulted.
