    • PURPOSE:To prevent molten metal from drooping from a groove by allowing magnetic force having specified directivity to act on welding current at the time of horizontal position welding and allowing upward force to act on molten metal in the molten pool by electromagnetic induction between the two. CONSTITUTION:Welding current is led flow between a base metal 1 having a groove in horizontal position and energizing tip 11 to generate an arc 18 between the tip of a welding wire 12 and the base metal 1, and a molten pool is formed by melting of the welding wire 12. In this case, a core of magnetic body 15 is placed outside of the energizing tip 11 through an insulator 14, and a coil 16 is wound on it, and current is applied from a power source 17. A magnetic field 21 of the direction shown by the arrow mark is generated by the current, and moving force according to Fleming's left-hand rule is made to act on molten meta in the molten pool 30 by welding current 22. A magnetic field generated by current from a power source 17 is made to alternating field, and upward force 30 is made to act on the molten metal to prevent it from drooping from a groove. Thus, weld metal free from defective welding is formed.

    • PURPOSE:To produce easily and quickly a large-sized steel material by partitioning the space formed of a pair of billets faced to each other by gates and subjecting the partitioned space to electroslag welding while cooling the end face of the gate on the non-welding side. CONSTITUTION:A copper plate 19 formed intenally with cooling water passages 18 is disposed to one end face (the space 152 side which is not welded first) of one gate 12 and a heat insulating material 10 is provided between the gate 12 and the plate 19. Plural pieces of hydraulic cylinders 20 are further interposed vertically between the plate 19 and the gate 12 behind said plate. Cooling hoses 17 are thereafter connected to the passages 18 and the supply of water is started; at the same time, plural pieces of consumable nozzle type electrodes provided with welding wires are inserted into the space 151 partitioned by the other end face side of the gate 12 to perform electroslag welding. A molten metal is then gradually accumulated in the space 151 and the gate 12 is heated and melted by the convection of the molten slag which is heated by the current.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain a satisfactory welding condition without generating any blowhole in the stage of semi-automatic welding with nongas arc by emitting an alarm indicating the deviation of the welding current signal in the stage of actual welding from a preliminarily stored correct welding condition when such deviation arises thereby maintaining the wire always at an adequate free length. CONSTITUTION:The relation between a wire feed speed and a correct welding voltage in accordance with the kind and diameter of a welding wire and the welding current ranges I1, I2 in the range of the adequate free length of the wire at a certain feed speed of the wire are preliminarily stored 14. The kind and diameter of a wire 2 are then inputted by a key operation 16, and further the voltage of the feed signal for the wire and the output voltage of a welding machine are set. An arithmetic section 15 is automatically operated upon starting of welding and the voltage signal IV proportional to the welding current is inputted from a detecting section 13 for welding current signal. An alarm signal indicating the need for a precaution is outputted if the above- described signal IV deviates from the stored 14 adequate current range. Said deviation is announced to the welder by the audible sound or display emitted from an alarm device 17.
