    • A welded joint construction is provided for large vessels, e.g., reaction vessels or tanks, having inner surfaces subject to hydrogen embrittlement and having a pair of multilayer laminated walls arranged to form a special weld joint. This joint is made by having a first metal cladded on at least a portion of the opposing edges of the weld joint and extending from the inner surface of the vessel subject to hydrogen embrittlement toward the opposite surface of the vessel. The first metal is (a) only slightly hardenable by the heat of welding, (b) resistant to hydrogen embrittlement, and (c) annealed prior to the welding of the joint. A quantity of the first metal weld is deposited between and joining the opposed faces of said first metal cladded on the edges of the weld joint. The welding of the joint is completed by depositing a second metal, which is only slightly hardenable by welding heat, between the opposed edges of the joint and extending from the first metal weld deposited therein toward the opposite outer surface of the vessel. At least one of the pair of walls which are joined consists of a plurality of layers of metal sheets (e.g., Cr-Mo or Mo steel) forming the exterior of the vessel, and an inner sheet forming the inner surface of the vessel which is made of steel rsistant to hydrogen embrittlement. Generally, the outer layer of sheets are only mechanically placed together without metallurgical joining, and also a plurality of vents are provided extending through these layers to the inner sheet''s outer surface. The method joins such walls without necessity of annealing, and is especially useful in large vessels which cannot be annealed after fabrication by welding.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a multilayer pressure vessel suitable for use when the reaction product exhibits very strong corrosive property, by constituting the inner cylinder of a multilayer pressure vessel body of clad steel, which is composed of carbon steel and corrosion resistant material, and by forming a lining layer made of corrosion resistant material on the inside of the corrosion resistant layer. CONSTITUTION:The body 11 of a multilayer pressure vessel is constituted as follows: An outer cylinder 13 made of carbon steel is put on the outside of a multilayer part 12, which is made by winding thin sheet of carbon steel in multilayer, and an inner cylinder 14 made of clad steel composed of carbon steel material 14a and corrosion resistant material 14b is put on the inside of the multilayer part 12. In addition, a lining 15 made of corrosion resistant material is put on the inside of the corrosion resistant material 14b of the inner cylinder 14. In figure, 16 is the weld zone of the lining, 17 is a detecting hole. This constitution allows to prevent the corrosion of carbon steel portion by the layer of material 14b even if corrosive material is leaked through the lining 15 or weld zone 16, in addition, the lining operation is easy because no backing plate is used.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensive and highly capable pressure vessel by a method wherein a steel hoop is wound into cross winding so that the winding directions of the hoops are different mutually in the pressure vessel in which the steel hoops are wound around an inner tube both ends thereof are closed at both mirror plates. CONSTITUTION:The pressure vessel is formed by winding a plurality of layers of the steel hoops 2 continuously into spiral around the inner tube to form a layered cylinder and securing both ends of the hoops to the mirror plates 4 respectively by welding. The winding directions of the spiral windings of the steel hoops 2a, 2b of neighboring layers 3 are different mutually and the wound steel hoops 2a, 2b of each neighboring layers 3 are not welded mutually. According to this method, man-hours for manufacturing the vessel may be reduced remarkably and the inexpensive pressure vessel having sufficient capability of practical use may be obtained.
