    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform such electro-discharge machining as being high in the plane accuracy of a machined bottom face by avoiding a deeper cavity than the steady depth at a machining start position. SOLUTION: In this electro-discharge machining unit which impresses a pulsative voltage in space between a tool electrode 1 and a workpiece W, composing the Z-axial feed to compensate a longitudinal consumable quantity of the tool electrode 1 with the X Y plane feed, and 3-dimensional control is carried out, thereby machining the desired 3-dimensional form, it is provided with a discharge detecting means 10 detecting a fact that an electric discharge is generated in space between the tool electrode 1 and the workpiece W, a storage means 11 storing an approach path making the tool electrode 1 come close to the workpiece W, a machining form path for securing a desired machining force and an electric condition of electro-discharge machining, and a control means 12 which performs the electro-discharge machining at once on the basis of the machining form path being stored in the storage means 11 if generation of the electric discharge is detected by the discharge detecting means 10 in a process where the tool electrode 1 gets nearer to the workpiece W on the basis of the approach path stored in the storage means 11.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the machining precision by determining the working area of a workpiece on the basis of voltage generating time, determining the working time on the basis of this working area and the working time per unit working area to control the machining of the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:When an electric discharge machining is performed under working conditions of n-stages, the working conditions are switched by a control device 10. In this case, at the n-1 stage working, a working area S is determined by a working area arithmetic device 25 on the basis of the n-1 stage working space distance preset in the working area arithmetic device 25 and the voltage build up time from a measuring circuit 24. On the basis of the working time (t) per unit working area from the n-1 stage working surface roughness to the n-stage working surface roughness, which is preset in a working time input device 19, and the calculated working area S, the ut-stage working time Tn (Tn=t.S) is arithmetically determined by a working time arithmetic device 20. Thereafter, this calculation result Tn is set in a working time setting device 12 as the n-stage working time.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress attachment of tar by furnishing a processing pulse control device to impress a positive polarity voltage in a pause time of pulsed voltage in the reversed polarity, giving a dischargeable value to the current limiting impedance at the time with reversed polarity, and also giving a value unlikely to generate discharging to the current limiting impedance at the time with positive polarity. CONSTITUTION:The amperage on the reversed polarity side to perform processing is changed over by changing over a current limiting resistance 410 for reversed polarity by a current limiting resistance changeover switch 412 for reversed polarity. When an insulative liquid is used, a positive polarity side current limiting resistance 411 is fixed to a large value exceeding approx. 5OMEGA so that the influence of positive polarity discharging is lessened, and also slight discharging takes place in positive polarity, which ensures that a good surface quality is generated on the work processed. In case insulative liquid is used as processing liquid, there is no risk of current leak unless discharge is generated even if a voltage is impressed to the inter-polar gap, so that it is possible to fix the positive polarity side current limiting resistance 411 to a large value, and there is no need to make changing-over.

A position of the electrode is controlled on the basis of data on a machining shape path and a Z axis directional feed quantity in the XY axis direction of the tool electrode at approach time or after approach by a tool electrode position control means 13.
