    • PURPOSE:To prevent an X-ray leak by applying the constitution wherein an anode button is made of a three-layer clad metal and the X-ray absorption coefficient of a metal clamped in the intermediate position thereof is made larger than the coefficient pertaining to an iron or an alloy thereof. CONSTITUTION:The material of the anode button 12 of an image receiving tube 1 is made to have three layer clad plate construction and an X-ray absorp tion coefficient pertaining to the intermediate metals 12A and 12B thereof is made larger than the coefficient pertaining to an iron or an alloy thereof. As a result, as the outside metal of the clad metal has the same component as a convential metal, it is unnecessary to be concerned about the generation of toxic gases and the like when the plate is used as a metal for vacuum glass. On the other hand, an X-ray can be shielded more efficiently with the smaller thickness of the intermediate plates 12A and 12B. According to the aforesaid construction, it is possible to eliminate an X-any leak from the anode button 12.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a whisker-reinforced glass having low density, small total area of interface between the whisker and the glass and improved mechanical characteristics, by dispersing whiskers in a glass matrix with continuous concentration gradient. CONSTITUTION:Whiskers are dispersed in a glass matrix 2 consisting of an amorphous or crystalline glass. The volume content of the whisker in the glass is made highest at a part where the reinforcing effect is especially required. The volume content of whisker in the matrix 2 is gradually decreased and is made lowest at the surface part (b) where the requirement of the reinforcing effect is not so serious. The whisker-reinforced glass of the present invention having the above structure has high specific elastic modulus, specific strength and fracture toughness compared with conventional material. The volume content of whisker is decreased to the necessary minimum level in the present reinforced glass and, accordingly, the total area of the interface between the whisker and the glass matrix can be decreased and the cost of the reinforced glass can be reduced. The whisker is e.g. SiC, Si3N4 or C whisker.
