摘要： In order to obtain a crop which provides an increased storage lipid content in its seed, the activity of cytosolic pyruvate kinase of a seed is substantially lowered as compared with the endogenous activity of pyruvate kinase in the plant seed. Preferably, the activity of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase is substantially lowered as compared with the endogenous activity of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase in the seed. Thus the storage lipid content in the plant seed is increased.

摘要： A novel gene that can be used to identify male-sterile cytoplasm in plants, for example, of the Cruciferae family, and a method for producing hybrid plants using this gene are provided. This novel cms cytoplasmic gene is valuable in that it can be utilized in the production of hybrid plant seeds. This invention is also useful for rapidly identifying Kosena cms cytoplasm, a nov el cytoplasm which exhibits characteristics valuable in plant breeding. In addition, this gene may possibly be used to confer cms onto a broad range of plant species, not limited to those of the Cruciferae family, by its introduction into nuclear or mitochondrial genomes.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the subject gene coding a protein having a specific amino acid sequence and useful for the production of a male sterile plant, etc., by cloning a cDNA specifically expressed in an anther at the early period of a pollen-forming process from the bud of rapeseed. CONSTITUTION:The bud of frozen and stored rapeseed is ground with a mortar and a pestle in liquidized nitrogen, and all RNAs are extracted from the ground product with a buffer solution containing guanidine thiocyanate by a conventional method. A mRNA is separated from the RNAs with an oligo (dT) column. A cDNA is synthesized from the mRNA as a template, and the library of the cRNA is made by a conventional method. The library is screened with a probe labeled with a cDNA clone specifically expressed in the anther of rapeseed at the early period of the pollen-forming process, and a screened positive clone is cloned to obtain a gene coding a protein having an amino acid sequence of the formula, useful for the production of a male sterile plant, and specifically expressed in the anther.
