    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method capable of effectively cleaning an underground oil-contaminated area.
      SOLUTION: The method of cleaning an oil-contaminated area is characterized by repeating a series of operations comprised of a first operation A of lowering the underground water level to a lower position relative to an underground oil-contaminated area to turn the same into an unsaturated state, a second operation B of supplying the underground oil-contaminated area turned into an unsaturated state with an aerobic bacterium, and a third operation C of returning the underground water level to the normal water level subsequent to allowing the aerobic bacterium to decompose the oil component present in the underground oil-contaminated area. An underground oil-contaminated area can be cleaned by simply carrying out the first operation A, the second operation B, the third operation C, and a fourth operation D of lowering the underground water level to a lower position relative to the underground oil-contaminated area to turn the same into an unsaturated state whereby allowing the aerobic bacterium to decompose the oil component present in the underground oil-contaminated area, subsequent to carrying out the third operation C.
