    • The apparatus disclosed is a type of downhole pressure gauge to be used to measure and record pressure information about oil and gas wells. The apparatus measures flunctuations in pressure by means of a mechanical pressure sensitive device, such as a Bourdon tube, and records and stores this information by converting mechanical movement, associated with pressure changes as detected by the mechanical pressure sensitive device, into corresponding voltage changes across a potentiometer which are stored in an electronic memory board. The change in voltage over time corresponds to the change in well pressure over time, thereby providing important information to the well operator. Also disclosed is a method for measuring well pressure by means of combining a mechanical pressure sensitive device with an electrical system and an electronic memory board for storing the measurements. Also disclosed is a kit, whereby an existing downhole mechanical pressure gauge can be converted to a mechanical/electrical combination by the replacement of certain parts.

    • 19,838. Miller, T. Sept. 15. Switches for the rails of electric railways and tramways on the overhead-conductor system are operated by electromagnets which are excited from the overhead conductor by means under the control of the driver. Figs. 1 and 2 show an electric switch S on the vehicle connected to the usual distributing-block which is energized from the overhead conductor J. Insulated wires 3, 4 supported by the wires T, T are placed near the points, and are engaged by auxiliary trolleys 1, 2 carried on branch arms of the trolley pole 0. By operating the switch S, a current will pass through the wire K, pole 0, trolley 1, auxiliary wire 3, supporting-wire T', and the wire K, down to the electromagnets in the box C, thereby operating the rail-points, and returning by the wires K , 4 to the trolley 2 and switch S. To reverse the points, a current is reversed in the above circuit by reversing the switch. The electromagnets are shown in Figs. 2 and 4 situated in pairs facing one another in a waterproof box C having its surface level with the roadway. The two magnets A are connected to, and move with, the point-operating rod R, and have their windings in a branch circuit which is connected to earth through the resistance 5. By this device, the current always flows in the same direction through these coils, although its direction in the main circuit and the coils of the fixed magnets B may be varied at will. Thus, the points can be operated in either direction.
