    • An insertion system, the insertion system comprising: a base (206) adapted to be carried by a patient; a first device housing (280) configured to be operatively engaged with and disengaged from the base (206), the first device housing (280) comprising: a first carrier body (260) arranged for movement within at least a portion of the first device housing (280) at least between a retracted position and an advanced position, the first carrier body (260) for supporting a piercing member (246) in a position orientated for insertion through skin of the patient upon movement of the first carrier body (260) from the retracted position to the advanced position; and a second device housing (291) configured to be operatively engaged with and disengaged from the first device housing (280), the second device housing (291) comprising: a second carrier body (298) arranged for movement within at least a portion of the second device housing (291) at least between a retracted position and an advanced position, the second carrier body (298) operatively engageable with the first carrier body (260); and a drive mechanism (293) arranged within the second device housing (291) for providing a rotational force to cause the first carrier body (260) to move from the retracted position toward the advanced position to insert at least a portion of the piercing member (246) through skin of the patient.
