    • A transcutaneous energy transfer system, method and kit for an implantable medical device (16) having componentry (28) for providing a therapeutic output and a secondary coil (34) operatively coupled to the componentry (28) and is adapted to be implanted at a location in a patient (18). An external power source (48) has a primary coil (54) contained in a housing. The external power source (48) is capable of providing energy to the implantable medical device (16) when the primary coil (54) of the external power source (48) is placed in proximity of the secondary coil (34) of the implantable medical device (16). A holder (84A) is adapted to be externally positioned with respect to the patient (18) at a spot in proximity of the location of the implantable medical device (16) and secured at the location. A spacer (84B), removably coupled to the holder (84A), has an opening receiving the protrusion (110). A plurality of spacers (84B) can be used. The number is spacers (84B) is selectable based on the size of the protrusion (110).

A secondary housing (68) is mechanically coupled to the first housing (32) having a secondary coil (34) operatively coupled to the componentry (28), the secondary coil (34) capable of receiving energy from the external source. A magnetically shielding material (36) is positioned between the secondary coil (34) and the first housing (32). An external power source (48) has an external housing (52). A primary coil (54) carried in the external housing (52), the primary coil (54) being capable of inductively energizing the secondary coil (34) when the housing is externally placed in proximity of the secondary coil (34) with a first surface (62) of the housing positioned closest to the secondary coil (34), the first surface (62) of the housing being thermally conductive surface. An energy absorptive material carried within the external housing (52).
