    • A portable electric circular saw with a tiltable base plate is disclosed herein. The circular saw comprises a housing for accommodating an electric motor, a circular saw blade operatively connected to the motor to be driven thereby, a safety guard connected to the housing for enclosing the portion of the saw blade, the base plate upon which the above parts are mounted and which is adapted to engage upon the surface of a workpiece to be sawed, and a bracket for attaching the base plate to the housing. One end portion of the bracket is secured to the housing and the opposite end thereof is pivotally connected to the base plate such that the base plate can pivot about an axis within the plane of the saw blade for adjustment of the angle of the cut. The base plate joins the bracket by fastening means at the portion intermediate the ends of the bracket after the base plate is set at a desired angle with respect to the saw blade. Thus the base plate is linked through the bracket to the housing itself and is not required to be connected to the safety guard, which eliminates the necessity of giving a greater strength to the safety guard enough to be securely connected at its front end to the base plate. Accordingly, the safety guard can be made of lightweight material free from the strength requirement such that the overall weight of the circular saw can be reduced so as to be easily manipulated.

    • The electric percussion drilling machine comprises a rotatably mounted drill holder (20), a drive member (58) to which a reciprocating movement is imparted, and an electric motor (2) which simultaneously sets the drill holder (20) in rotation and applies the reciprocating movement to the drive member (58). Arranged at an axial distance from the drive member (58) is a percussion hammer (60) which transmits blows to the drill holder (20) when the latter rotates in the one direction. A helical spring (59) is arranged between the percussion hammer (60) and the drive member (58) in such a way that it is expanded and compressed in accordance with the reciprocating movement of the drive member (58) and thus produces a prestress which presses the percussion hammer (60) in the direction of the percussion movement. Accordingly, the helical spring (59) transmits the energy of the reciprocating drive member (58) to the percussion hammer (60) and the drill (23) without an additional connecting medium, such as, for instance, an air cushion. In this way, the efficiency of transmission is improved and a powerful percussion action with low power consumption is obtained.

    • A portable electric circular saw which operates on a rechargeable battery is disclosed. The circular saw comprises a housing for accommodating a motor driving a circular saw blade operatively connected thereto, the rechargeable battery supplying electricity to the motor, and a handle projecting atop the housing, the motor having an output shaft arranged transversely of the housing and connected to a drive spindle carrying the saw blade and arranged in parallel relationship with the output shaft. The motor and the battery are disposed within the housing, to be arranged along the cutting direction of the saw blade, so as to properly distribute the weight of the saw in the longitudinal direction, which is the cutting direction of the saw blade. The handle is of generally U-shaped configuration, having an elongated top grip and legs at opposed ends, which join the top of the housing at respective portions upwardly of the motor and the battery, with the top grip extended longitudinally along the cutting direction of the saw blade, such as to provide a properly balanced saw structure, which effectuates easy hand operation to advance the saw.
