    • Disclosed is a plasma display panel which enables to reduce steps in the manufacturing process and realizes good image display. The plasma display panel comprises a pair of substrates (3, 11) arranged opposite to each other so as to form a discharge space (16) between them, and at least the front side substrate is transparent. The front side substrate (3) is provided with display electrodes (6) each comprising a scan electrode (4) and a sustain electrode (5), and a light-shielding portion (7) which is in a position corresponding to a non-discharging portion (18) between the display electrodes (6). The rear side substrate (11) is provided with phosphor layers (15R, 15G, 15B) which emit light when a discharge is produced. Each display electrode (6) is composed of transparent electrodes (4a, 5a) and bus electrodes (4b, 5b), and the bus electrodes (4b, 5b) are respectively composed of a plurality of electrode layers. At least one of the electrode layers is a black layer (19) made of a material having a volume resistivity from 1 × 105 to 1 × 109 Ωcm, and the light-shielding portion (7) is made of the same material as the black layer (19).
