摘要： In an optical information recording medium having at least two information layers, guide grooves for tracking or sample pits or information pits corresponding to information signals are formed on a surface of a first substrate (1). A first information layer (2) formed by a thin film for reflecting a portion of a light beam (7) made incident on the first substrate (1) and permitting penetration of a portion of the light beam (7) is formed on a surface of the first substrate (1). Guide grooves for tracking or information pits corresponding to information signals are formed on a surface of a second substrate (3). A second information layer (4) having a reflectance higher than that of the first information layer (2) is formed on a surface of the second substrate (3). Between the first information layer (2) and the second information layer (4), there is formed a transparent separation layer (5) for positioning the first information layer (2) and the second information layer (4) to be spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other.

摘要： A disc cartridge has a cartridge body and a lid. The cartridge body has first and second major surfaces facing each other, a section for containing a disc-like data recording medium, opening windows provided in the first and second major surfaces so as to be able to disclose a part of the contained data recording medium, an opening provided to take out the contained data recording medium from the containing section, and holes for identifying recording prohibition, provided in the first and second major surfaces, respectively, to indicate that recording in the contained data recording medium is prohibited. The lid opens and closes the opening of the cartridge body. The first and second major surfaces of the cartridge body have the external shape that enables the cartridge body to be loaded in an optical disc drive device such that each of the first and second major surfaces can face the pickup of the optical disc drive device. Of the holes for identifying recording prohibition in the first and second major surfaces, only the one in the second major surface is provided with a mechanism for setting recordability/non-recordability which mechanism is capable of setting a state in which the holes for identifying recording prohibition are open and a state in which the holes are closed.

Thus, a phase change type optical disk which enables phase difference reproduction and is erasable may be realized. In a phase change type optical disk having a phase difference reproduction structure, servo mechanism at the time of reproducing signals may be stably controlled by causing the reflectance of a blank portion to be higher than the reflectance of a recording mark portion.

摘要： The present invention relates to a recording and reproducing method and apparatus for an optical disk 1 of the phase transition type that can be overwritten. According to this invention, the capacity of repeated rewriting of the optical disk 1 is expanded by recording either non-inverted write data 11a or inverted write data 11b at random. The deterioration due to the repeated rewriting at a start point and an end point of the recording is suppressed by recording a synchronizing signal before the write data and/or dummy data after the write data by varying the recording light intensity such that thermal stress is less likely to occur. A record end position can be determined precisely by detecting a stop pulse to stop recording.
