摘要： A method for producing an olefin type copolymer having a cyclic structure, which comprises copolymerizing ethylene (M1) and dicyclopentadiene or tricyclopentadiene (M2), and, as optionally introduced, a cyclic olefin (M3), wherein, as a catalyst, a catalyst comprising a metallocene compound (A) of the following formula null1null: H2C(RnullmCP)(RnullnCp)Mx2nullnullnull1nullwherein M is zirconium or hafnium, Cp is a group having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton, each of Rnull and Rnull is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, each of two X's which may be the same or different from each other, is a halogen atom, a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a halogenated hydrocarbon group, an alkylamino group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group of the formula nullOnullArnullYp (wherein Ar is an aromatic ring, Y is a halogen atom, a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a halogenated hydrocarbon group, an alkoxy group, an alkylamino group, a cyano group or a nitro group, and p is an integer of from 1 to 5), a thioalkyl group, or a thioaryl group of the formula nullSnullArnullYp (wherein Ar, Y and p are as defined above), and each of m and n is an integer of from 0 to 4, provided that m and n are not equal, and mnulln is an integer of from 3 to 6, and an aluminoxane (B), is used.

The compound is stable to air and moisture so that it generates no hydrogen halide by hydrolysis and is easily handled, and it has high storage stability and high catalyst activity. Specifically, the catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins comprises a transition metal composition represented by the general formula null1null and null2null:(Ra Cp)m (Rnullb Cp)M(nullXnullArnullYc)4null(mnulln)nullnullnull1nullRnull(Rd Cp)(Rnulle Cp)M(nullXnullArnullYc)2 nullnullnull2nullwherein M is Ti, Zr or Hf; each of (RaCp), (Rnullb Cp), (Rd Cp) and (Rnulle Cp) is a radical having the cyclopentadienyl skeleton; Rnull is a radical that links (Rd Cp) and (Rnulle Cp); (nullXnullArnullYc) is a grouping in which the aromatic ring Ar substituted by a specified radical Y bonds to M through an oxygen or sulphur atom X.
