摘要： A high asphalt content paving material containing diatomite. The diatomite stabilizes the additional asphalt preventing bleeding, rutting and shoving. The diatomite must be present in sufficient quantity to adsorb at least the excess asphalt and, preferably, all of the asphalt present in the mix. A method of calculating this optimum diatomite content is presented. Further, a method of adding the diatomite to the mix in order to minimize damage to the diatoms is disclosed.

摘要： A composition for forming a high temperature, alkali resistant refractory fiber. The compositional formulation, by weight, is 45-76% silica, 12-32% alumina, 5-30% zirconia with a silica to alumina ratio in the range from 1.8 to 4.0. These fibers are chemically resistant in both acidic and alkaline environments even when heat treated to temperatures exceeding 500o (260oC) in such environments. The fibers are suitable for reinforcing calcium silicate cementitious products, which products are also claimed. Another compositional formulation, by weight, is 46-52% silica, 32-38% alumina, 13-18% zirconia with a silica to zirconia ratio in the range from 2.6 to 3.8. These fibers have a maximum service temperature in the range of 2550oF (1400oC) to 2650oF (1455oC) and exhibit better shrinkage resistance than similarly rated commercially available refractory fiber.

The adjustable socket comprises a generally cylindrical shaped socket shield (48) which is fixed to the ballast housing (14) of the luminar and is positioned around the lamp socket (20) with the socket shield having formed therein a bracket channel and a guide channel. The addition of small amounts (0.5 to 2%) diatomite by weight to conventional pavement mixes, serves to increase density, viscosity, aggregate interlock and temporarily volumetrically extends the asphalt improving compactability resulting in an emplaced pavement that has lower air and water permeability without increased instability. The improved strength of the mixed and abrasion resistance of the mastic enable the thickness of wearing course overlays to be reduced without detrimental effects of wear life. The addition of diatomite makes the pavement mix more forgiving of errors in asphalt and aggregate amounts and can result in significant reduction of cost/sq. yard of pavement.
