    • Lubricant compsns. to impregnate, preserve and post-lubricate wire ropes, contain (all wt.%'s): (a) 75 - 90 high viscosity mineral oils, pref. residual oil extracts derived from N-methyl-pyrrolidone refining of such oils, having the following characteristics: viscosity:30:50 mm sq./sec. at 100 deg.C.; flash pt.: of above 200 deg.C. (b) 2 - 10 pref. 2 - 5 polymer pref. atatic polypropylene of 500 - 50,000 average mol. wt.; of 100 - 1,000 mPa-s average melt viscosity, of above 145 deg.C softening pt. by ring and ball method); 15 - 30 x 0.1 mm penetration; (-5) - 15 deg.C Tg.; 0.2 - 20 polyethylene; drop pt.: 120 - 135 deg.C and in this instant 0.5 - 5 poly-iso-butylene of 1,000 - 15,000 mol. wt. and or a hydrocarbon resin. (C) 2 - 15 paraffin microwax and/or refined keresin. (d) 0.5 - 2.5 complex inhibitor compsn. of rust converting, E.P. and wear-resistant action, comprises (i) aq. soln. prepd. with 50 - 200 pts. wt. water and contg. 100 - 200 pts. wt. of alkali-petroleum-sulphonates of 300 - 700 average mol. wt. and of 40 - 60 mg KOH/g acid value, and/or mixed alkali sulphonates of 300 - 700 average mol. wt. and of 40 - 60 mgKOH/g acid value, being obtd. as by-products of refining petroleum jelly or white oils of 300 - 700 mol. wt. and 40 - 60 mgKOH/g acid value, by sulphuric acid, oleum as sulphurtrioxide; (ii) 50 - 100 pts. wt. oxidised keresin of 400 - 700 mg. mol. wt. 20 - 60 mgKOH/g acid value and 60 - 80 mgKOH/g saponifaction value and 65 - 80 deg.C drop pt.; (iii) 100 - 200 oxidised micro-crystalline paraffin wax of 400 - 700 mol. wt., 15 - 40 mg KOH/g acid value and 60 - 70 deg.C drop pt.; (iv) an amine cpd. pref. a 5 - 16C aliphatic amine, an aromatic-, or araliphatic-amine, dicyclohexyl-amine, mono:-, di:- and or tri:-ethanol-amine in stoichiometric proportion to the combined acid value of the three components and (v) 4 - 15 pts. wt. tannic and/or phosphoric acid based inhibitor compsn., and (e) 0.05 - 0.30 known antioxidant.
