    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to increase an available memory amount.SOLUTION: A computer comprises main memory 13 and a virtual memory area 213. In virtual address spaces 201a-201c, working sets 203a-203c of a prescribed size are allocated to the main memory 13. An area excluding the working sets becomes an available memory area 207, and a cache area 205 is set to part of the available memory area. On boot, prescribed processes which have no effect on the boot are suspended. A memory page is swapped out to the virtual memory area 213 and the size of the working sets of the suspended processes is reduced. As a result, the available memory area increases and an OS enlarges the cache area. Thus, more boot files can be read in advance and boot time can be reduced.
