    • Apparatus for apprising an unattended station of the presence of a voice message awaiting retrieval from a voice mail system. The voice mail system is connected to the unattended station, as by automatic telephone dialing, whereupon activating signals are transmitted to the unattended station to dispose that station in a signal receiving mode of operation. Display data then are transmitted to the unattended station when said unattended station is conditioned to receive signals. A disconnect operation is carried out to disconnect the voice mail system from the unattended station if the unattended station is not conditioned to receive signals, or subsequent to the transmission of the display data. Preferably, and in accordance with the preferred embodiment, the voice message is transmitted for recording at the unattended station if the display data are received successfully thereat.

The information processing system includes at least one user input device, a transcription center at which voice files received from the at least one user input device are transcribed to text format and a natural language processing system receiving the transcribed voice files for analysis and processing.     • Methods and systems for multi level quality checking of transcripts are disclosed. The method includes the steps of searching subsets of metadata associated with the transcripts, identifying a group of transcripts having at least one particular subset of metadata, selecting a number of transcripts from the group of identified transcripts corresponding to a predetermined percentage, identifying a group of correctionists having a proper set of characteristics to correct the selected transcripts by matching the identified subsets of metadata associated with the transcripts with characteristics of correctionists, providing the transcripts and any voice files from which the transcripts derive to the selected correctionists, and, following correction, updating the subsets of metadata associated with the transcripts to include subsets of metadata pertaining to the voice files from which the transcripts were derived, any transcriptionist who transcribed the transcripts, or any correctionist who corrected the transcripts.

    • A central dictation system includes a central server computer and a plurality of voice input stations connected to the server computer. Speaker-dependent speech recognition capabilities are provided at each voice input station, and any authorized user may use any station. When a user logs on to one of the stations, acoustic reference files to be used in recognizing the speech of the user are downloaded from the server to the station onto which the user has logged on. The down-loaded acoustic reference files are used to perform the speech recognition at the voice input station. A high bandwidth signal generated at the voice input station and used for speech recognition processing is transcoded at the input station to form a low bandwidth speech signal. The low bandwidth speech signal and the text document resulting from the speech recognition process are uploaded to the server computer.
