    • Improved methods for the production of tissue-engineered constructs, including muscular tissue constructs such as vascular constructs, are disclosed. The methods include the use of improved substrates for cell growth, improved cell culture media for cell growth, and the use of distensible bodies to impart pulsatile stretching force to lumens of constructs during growth. Also disclosed are improved products and methods for making those products, including substrates and cell culture media, for tissue engineering and tissue culture generally. Improved muscular tissue constructs, including vascular constructs, are also disclosed, which may be used in medicine for the repair or replacement of damaged natural structures. In an embodiment, a muscular, tubular tissue-engineered construct is prepared having a wall of mammalian smooth muscle cells oriented circumferentially about a lumen of the construct at a cell density of at least 107 cells/cc.

    • The invention includes both systems and methods for tomosynthesis x-ray imaging. An x-ray source is moved at various positions in an arc around an object, e.g., a breast, to illuminate a stationary digital detector (or its equivalent) placed at an image plane behind the object. A digital image data processor collects data from the detector and a motion controller moves the source around the object. As the source moves along the arc, the detector generates, for a succession of points along the arc, a corresponding succession of image data sets, each set being representative of the intensity of x-rays incident on the detector for the then current position of the source. The image data processor is responsive to the image data sets to generate an output image signal representative of the x-ray absorption of points within the object region. The processor transforms the image plane data to a form corresponding to that which would have been generated had the x-ray source moved in a linear motion in a source plane parallel to the image plane, rather than an arc. The resultant image data thus corresponds in form to that produced by a conventional linear motion, e.g., Twinning-type, system, so that conventional techniques and equipment may be used to produce a final representation of the x-ray absorption of the object region.

    • A separable double lumen endotracheal tube is disclosed having a first lumen and a second lumen and which are removably affixed together to allow the first lumen to be separated from the second lumen of the double lumen endotracheal tube and, if desired, to be subsequently affixed together again. Either lumen of the double lumen endotracheal tube can function alone for positive pressure ventilation, but normally the bronchial lumen will be removed from a patient and the tracheal lumen left in place to function alone to provide positive pressure ventilation as required by a patient. The double lumen endotracheal tube will, however, function to allow the bronchial lumen to remain in a patient subsequent to removal of the tracheal lumen as a matter of choice during a medical procedure.
