    • An apparatus for cleaning (e.g., scrubbing, washing, treating, waxing, etc.) a surface, such as a recessed crevice or area, includes a fluid-powered scrubber head and a removable brush extending from the scrubber head. The scrubber head includes a housing, an inlet at one end of the housing for receiving a flow of fluid from a fluid supply and a deflecting surface for directing the flow of fluid once received through the inlet. The deflecting surface may be a movable deflecting panel that is selectively moved relative to the housing to cover an opening in the housing. The deflecting surface may also include a partial conical surface that concentrates the flow of fluid deflected out of the housing and onto the brush outside the housing as the brush rotates in response to the fluid flow.

    • Leakage detection of cargo from the hold of a barge involves a mounting plate to the top hatch of the hold. Two pipes secured to the plate extend to locations near the bottom. Each pipe has a guide tube in it coaxial with the pipe. Each pipe has a float in it received around the guide tube. A float follower is in each tube and magnetically coupled to the float so that the float follower rises and falls with the float. One pipe has an open bottom for cargo to freely move up and down in the pipe as the hold is filled and emptied. The other pipe has a valve at the bottom for admitting cargo from the hold to the pipe at the port of origin of the vessel. Following loading of the cargo, the valve is closed. One embodiment tethers the floats to reels atop the plate. Any change of level of the floats, reflecting a loss of cargo during transit from the port of origin to that of destination, is reflected in relative rotation of the reels and triggering an output signal to an annunciator. Another embodiment employs lasers transmitting to and receiving from the float followers, reporting to a comparator producing an output signal to an annunciator upon recognition of a difference between distances indicated by laser output signals. A third embodiment eliminates the guide tubes, floats and float followers. Portable embodiments for measurement of liquid levels alone, and also useful for loss detection, include a carrier handle for hand carrying the measuring laser and computer from one tank to another in a multiple tank site or transporter to measure liquid levels in a number of tanks. Other embodiments include a portable combination ultrasonic measurement with laser measurement to indicate temperature in the atmosphere of the liquid level, along with indication of the level measurements.

    • On a liquid cargo tank of a barge, a pressure responsive pilot valve operates through a combination of levers to unlatch a main valve clamp arm. One lever is a latch arm having a first position engaging and retaining a latch stud mounted on the clamp arm, and having a second position free of the latch stud whereby the clamp arm is released. A latch hook normally retains the latch arm in the first position but is operable to a second position to free the latch arm from the restraint of the hook. A pilot-operated trigger arm is operable on the latch hook to move the latch hook from the latch arm retaining position to the latch release position. The trigger arm also is able to directly engage the latch arm for unlatching it if not already unlatched immediately upon freedom from restraint of the hook. The main valve seal disk is held closed under a spring-load by the clamp arm. The minimum valve closing load on the main valve is established by a high rate spring having a predetermined load and which is further loaded upon placement of the clamp arm in the latching position. Means are also provided to facilitate field testing of the valve-opening set point pressure.
