    • The present invention is directed to an orifice plate for use with an ink jet printhead assembly and a method for fabricating that orifice plate and a printhead assembly incorporating the orifice plate and a method for fabricating that printhead. The orifice plate has either a projection extending outwardly from a rear side surface of the orifice plate that is configured to be closely received by a corresponding alignment cavity in the front end body portion of the printhead or an alignment cavity formed in the rear side surface of the orifice plate that is configured to closely receive a projection extending outwardly from the front end portion of the printhead body. An ultraviolet light curable adhesive may be used to adhesively intersecure and seal the orifice plate on the printhead body.

    • The top side wall of a portable computer base housing portion has a rectangular opening therein that complementarily receives a keyboard assembly. The keyboard assembly has a rear side edge portion from which a spaced plurality of mounting tabs outwardly project, and a spaced plurality of latch structures are captively retained on a front side edge portion of the keyboard assembly. Each latch structure includes a tab member that is slidable relative to the balance of the keyboard assembly between a forwardly extended position and a rearwardly retracted position, and a cap portion pivotally retained on the tab member. To install the keyboard assembly in the base housing top side opening the assembly is placed in the top side opening, the rear side tabs are inserted into corresponding openings in the top base housing side wall, the front side tabs are forwardly moved to their extended positions in which they enter facing openings in the base housing top side wall, and the cap portion are pivoted inwardly against the top side of the keyboard assembly and latched into place thereon to prevent the front side tabs from rearwardly moving to their retracted release positions. To subsequently remove the keyboard, the cap portions are upwardly pivoted to unlatch them, the unlatched cap portions are rearwardly moved to move the front side tabs to their retracted positions, and the cap portions are lifted to remove the keyboard assembly from the base housing top side opening.

    • A notebook computer has a collapsible keyboard in which elastomeric key switch domes on the top side of a dome sheet are horizontally shiftable under the keys to selectively underlie and support them for use, or to permit the keys to be collapsed to depressed positions to reduce the thickness of the keyboard in its storage and transport orientation. When the computer display housing lid is closed it contacts and pivotally depresses a small LCD status display structure supported on the top side of the computer base housing rearwardly of the keyboard and linked to the dome sheet in a manner such that the dome sheet is responsively shifted to collapse the keys. When the display housing lid is subsequently opened and disengaged from the LCD status display structure, the LCD status display structure is spring-returned to its original elevated position to responsively shift the dome sheet in a manner causing the elastomeric domes to again underlie and resiliently support the keys in their elevated operating positions.

    • A notebook computer is provided with a collapsible keyboard in which a dome sheet with elastomeric key return dome members thereon is horizontally shiftable through elevation and retraction strokes to respectively shift the keys between elevated operating positions in which the domes underlie and support the keys, and retracted positions in which the domes are shifted away from their key-underlying positions. A springless linkage structure interconnects the dome sheet to a cylindrical hinge area portion of the computer's lid housing which rotates with the lid housing as it is opened and closed. The linkage structure functions to drive the dome sheet through its elevation stroke during an initial portion of the lid housing's pivotal opening movement, and to drive the dome sheet through its retraction stroke during a terminal portion of the lid housing's closing movement. Force is exerted on the dome sheet by the springless linkage structure only during forced pivotal movement of the lid housing.

In response to these lid-created triggering movements of the dome sheet, a bistable spring structure connected to the drive bar takes control of the dome sheet and drives it through the balance of the stroke and then releasably retains the fully shifted dome sheet in the resulting stroke end position thereof.
