In this case, the ball has the outer diameter D of 1.73-1.75 inches, and the cover thickness T of 0.125-0.145 inches, and the external cover has a cover hardness of Shore D60 or higher, preferably, Shore D65-D75, more preferably, Shore D65-D70. Also, this golf has a weight which is lighter than 1.62 ounces.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved scratch resistance and/or cut resistance by containing a copolymer of olefin and α,β-ethylene unsaturated calboxylic acid to form an ionomer resin in a golf ball having a cover containing the ionomer resin. SOLUTION: A core 10 is enveloped by an ionomer cover 12, and thin undercoating 14 and finish coating 16 are applied to form a golf ball 8. The ionomer resin forming the ionomer cover 12 contains a copolymer of olefin and α,β-ethylene unsaturated calboxylic acid neutralized by about 10-100% by metal ions, and it has the covalent binding bridge nearly sufficient to apply the improved resistance against at least one of scratch and gash to the cover 12. The covalent binding bridge preferably contains the radiation-induced covalent binding bridge to the degree sufficient to apply the Shore hardness D exceeding the Shore hardness D of the cover containing no covalent binding bridge by about 5% or below.

The game ball cover is superior in at least one of cut resistance and scuff resistance to a conventional cover that does not have covalent crosslinks but is otherwise substantially identical in composition. The game ball cover of the invention is particularly useful for improving the durability of golf balls to be struck with sharp-grooved clubs.
