According to one embodiment of the present invention, in a mobile communication system including a macro base station, at least one femto base station, and at least one terminal, a method for performing communication by a specific femto base station comprises: broadcasting cell-type information indicating that, from among an Open Subscriber Group (OSG) femto base station and a Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) femto base station, the specific femto base station is the CSG femto base station; receiving, from a specific terminal, a first message for a network entry attempt; and transmitting, to the specific terminal, a second message including access approval information instructing whether or not to permit a non-member terminal to access the specific femto base station.

    • The present invention discloses a communication method for a femto base station in consideration of a legacy terminal, and an operating technique of terminals based on an improved system in the communication method. The femto base station communicates using a frame structure including only a preamble, FCH, and DL-MAP as legacy system information to enable the legacy terminal to detect the femto base station. Moreover, the femto base station converts modes to use a frame structure in which a legacy area and an improved system area are sequentially included in necessity to connect with the legacy terminal. Therefore, the legacy terminal detects the femto base station to perform handover/interference control. The improved system terminal which operates in L mode detects the femto base station to perform handover/interference control too.

The handover method according to the present invention comprises the steps of: receiving from a serving base station a handover command message containing: target base station information, information on an available interval enabling data transmission / reception, to / from the serving base station during handover, information on an unavailable interval not enabling data transmission / reception during handover, and information on the time of disconnection of a link connected to the serving base station; performing a network entry process with the target base station; transmitting status information to the serving base station when an error has occurred in the network entry process; receiving from the serving base station a status information response message containing available interval and unavailable interval reset information and link disconnection time reset information for extending the link disconnection time; enabling the serving base station to provide a data transmitting / receiving service during the available interval; and re-performing the network entry process with the target base station, and disconnecting the link to the serving base station at the reset link disconnection time.
