    • Phase-change type, reversible optical information recording medium, being possible for recording, reproducing, erasing, and rewriting of information, by use of a laser beam. This invention consists of recording thin film of ternary elements, for example, containing Ge, Te, Sb/or Bi or quaternary elements containing the fourth element of Se with which a part of Te is replaced, which is established on such surface-flat substrates as glass or plastics. In this case, the component ratio of Te and Se is selected not to be excess for other elements, such as Ge, Sb/or Bi so as to be fixed as stable compounds of stoichiometric compositions of GeTe, Sb.sub.2 Te.sub.3 /or Bi.sub.2 Te.sub.3, or GeSe, Sb.sub.2 Se.sub.3 /Bi.sub.2 Se.sub.3 when crystallized. Strictly speaking, a concentration of each component is selected to have proper ratio of the number of atomes each other so as to represent whole composition as the sum of each component. By this treatment, it is possible to have high crystallization speed and long cyclability of recording/erasing. The effect of Se is to increase the viscosity of the system and to make easily to obtain amorphous state; and moreover, by selecting of proper amount displaced with Te, it is possible to obtain the composition of recoding film superior in both characteristics of recording (amorphization) and erasing (crystallization).

    • Phase-change type, reversible optical information recording medium, being possible for recording, reproducing, erasing, and rewriting of information, by use of a laser beam.     • A reversible optical information recording medium which permits recording, reproducing, erasing and rewriting at high speeds by means of laser beams. The reversible optical information recording medium has a recording thin film which is essentially constituted by Te-Au-O, and Ge or Se. In the system which employs Ge, the recording thin film is formed by addition of at least one selected from a group consisting of Sn, In, Bi and Sb, such as to reduce the Au content in the film composition. On the other hand, in the system which employs Se, a further improvement in the stability of the recorded signal is achievable by the addition of Ge, and an improvement in the recording/erasing sensitivities, particularly erasing sensitivity, can be enhanced by addition of at least one element selected from a group consisting of Sn, In, Bi and Sb. The recording/erasing mechanism in the reversible optical information recording medium of the invention mainly relies upon a change in the optical characteristic which in turn is caused mainly by a reversible phase change of Te. The phase change in the recording medium of the invention can be effected by a laser beam of an extremely low light power density and short irradiation time as compared with that required by the conventional optical information recording medium. This in turn permits much higher speed of recording and erasing of information over the conventional optical information recording medium.

    • Disclosed is an optical information recording member which permits recording of optical information at a high speed and high density by means of energy of light or heat, as well as a high speed reproduction of the recorded information. The optical information recording member has a thin film formed on a substrate which thin film is made of TeOx constituted by a mixture of Te and TeO.sub.2 with a small amount of Au being added such that the contents of Te, O and Au in the thin film falls within a predetermined region limited in terms of atomic percent. The optical information recording member of the invention having the thin film of Te-O-Au system permits the information to be recorded in quite a short time thus allowing quite high speed of recording and reproduction as compared with the conventional recording film of TeOx system. The optical information recording member of the invention also brings about a higher recording sensitivity and a higher C/N ratio. Further, the optical information recording member may have a thermal diffusion layer of a metal having a higher heat conductivity than the thin film, formed on at least one side of the recording thin film, thereby making uniform and stabilizing the recording bits. In consequence, undesirable distortion of the recording bits is prevented even when an excessively large recording power is irradiated, thus affording a wider adaptability of the optical information recording member.
