    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably maintain a transfer current within a reference range in real time even if transfer environment changes due to, for example, moisture absorption of paper.SOLUTION: The value of current passing through a secondary transfer section 14 is detected by an ammeter 33 via an electrode 11 located opposite to a secondary transfer roller 13. A variable resistor 35 is connected to a pre-transfer guide 20a for feeding paper P to the secondary transfer section 14. If the value detected by the ammeter 33 is outside a reference range, the value of current consumed for secondary transfer is kept within the reference range by adjusting the variable resistor 35, thereby changing a leak electrode flowing in the paper P. Since current in the secondary transfer section 14 is directly detected, a real-time performance is excellent. Also, since the need to change the output of a bias is eliminated, stability is excellent.
