摘要： A plasma display panel has a display region and a non-display region formed around the display region. The rear plate has data electrode that applies a drive voltage to the rear plate, a dummy electrode that is in parallel with the data electrode and does not apply a drive voltage to the rear plate, an insulating layer that coats the data electrode and the dummy electrode, and a plurality of horizontal barrier ribs formed on the insulating layer and orthogonal to the data electrodes. The data electrode is arranged in the display region and the non-display region. The dummy electrode is arranged in the non-display region. An outermost horizontal barrier rib is arranged in the non-display region. The outermost horizontal barrier rib is opposed to the data electrode via the insulating layer, and is not opposed to the dummy electrode.

摘要： In a conventional method of driving a plasma display panel, for example, an auxiliary discharge is executed between an A electrode and a Y electrode to improve light-emission efficiency of a display discharge. However, since a phosphor layer is present between the A electrode and the Y electrode, the phosphor layer is exposed to a discharge, whereby there is a problem that its characteristic deteriorates. A method of driving a plasma display panel having a structure, in which at least three display electrodes X, Y, and Z used for a display discharge are provided to a display cell and no phosphor layer is formed between said display electrodes and a discharge space, the method comprising the steps of: varying a potential of at least one display electrode Z of said display electrodes during said display discharge; and making a potential of said at least one display electrode Z at a time of starting said display discharge different from that at a time of ending said display discharge.

摘要： In a reset period after a sustain discharge period, erase discharges are done by applying pulse voltages having different waveforms in the first erase discharge period for an ON cell turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period and in the second erase discharge period even for an OFF cell not turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period. Weak wall charges that could not completely be erased in the first erase discharge period, i.e., weak wall charges having been accumulated in the OFF cell under the influence of the ON cell can be erased in the second erase discharge period. This makes it possible to prevent an ON operation of the OFF cell that should not be turned on in the subsequent address period and sustain discharge period, and to improve the driving voltage margin.
