    • A fuel supplement supplying device for an internal combustion engine to add a liquid additive such as water, methanol, or the like into the air being introduced prior to be mixed with a fuel is disclosed. The device includes a hollow vaporizing head of porous material disposed within the induction duct leading to the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine to define a constricted annular zone between the head and the induction duct. The liquid additive as above is fed from a reservoir via a feed line to the vaporizing head where the same is subjected to the negative pressure in response to a vacuum developed in the induction duct upon operation of the engine to whereby be sucked or seeped out through the porous wall of the vaporizing head into the stream of the air passing through said constricted annular zone. The liquid additive thus seeped out is vaporized on the surface of the head in the passing air to moisten the introducing air prior to being mixed with fuel. Thus, the liquid additive is to be added in the air-fuel mixture in proper amounts responsive to the vacuum within the induction duct, i.e., to the engine speed so as to increase the combustion efficiency over the operation range of the engine.

    • A device for indicating the driving operation of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle is disclosed. The pressure variation within an air inlet duct of the engine is sensed or detected by pressure detecting means, which cause output means to produce in response to the degree of the pressure within the duct an output which in turn operates to turn on at least one of the indicator lights of different colors. These indicator lights are arranged in series on an indicator board so as to be turned on in decreasing order in the pressure level within the duct. The indicator board is adapted to be disposed on the dash pannel of the vehicle such that these indicator lights are to be within the peripheral vision of the driver who can easily perceive the particular indicator light being turned on without detracting his attention from the traffic scene. Accordingly, the driver can learn from the device at any driving situations in order to comform his driving habit into the one which assures efficient engine operation as well as efficient fuel consumption through the course of his travel. In addition to the indicator lights, a loudspeaker is provided for warning the driver of his driving behavior operating the engine to an unpermissible extent so as to avoid such violent driving operation.

    • A variable venturi carburetor has a vertically movable head which moves along the downwardly extending induction passage. The movable head includes a lower member whose vertical position is determined by an accelerator pedal for the engine on which the carburetor is adapted and an upper member defining within the induction passage an annular venturi zone and being vertically movable relative to the lower member to vary the cross-sectional area of the venturi zone in response to the negative pressure developed behind the venturi zone within the induction passage. Thus, the venturi zone area is varied depending on the depression of the accelerator pedal as well as the negative pressure indicative of the ongoing engine condition such that an optimum amount of fuel is drawn therefrom to efficiently operate the engine throughout the operational range of engine RPM and load conditions. At a starting condition, more fuel is initially fed to the venturi zone through a power jet which opens in response to the introduced atmospheric pressure behind the venturi zone just before the engine starting as well as through an ever-opened main jet, whereby, in addition to more powerful suction being developed by a minimum venturi area caused by the relative movement of the upper member in response to such atmospheric pressure in the engine, produces a very rich mixture enough to start the engine without using the conventional choke valve.
