    • A decentralized processing system having a plurality of subsystems of the same type which are connected to one another. Each subsystem has a diagnosis means for diagnosis of failure in other subsystems, and functions to take a suitable countermeasure in response to the result of the diagnosis. When a failure has occurred in any one of the subsystems constituting the processing system, each subsystem can conduct a suitable fault time processing in accordance with the state of the failure. After the recovery from the failure, each system can execute a processing for recovering the ordinary status. The subsystems can correspond with each other to conduct the processings in synchronization as required. It is, therefore, possible to attain synchronous operation of two or more subsystems in various control systems or the like.

    • A message communication method and system in which a message signal to be communicated includes a function code signal portion and a data signal portion, the former being an index to the content of the latter and forming the substantial part of the message signal, and in which such a message signal is communicated not only among equipment blocks connected with one and the same communication line but also among those connected with different communication lines coupled with each other through a common equipment block connected with both of the coupled communication lines. Function codes being indices to the contents to data required to be processed by equipment blocks connected with the coupled communication lines are respectively registered in different memories in the common equipment block and the function code signal portions of message signals received by the common equipment block are compared with the stored function codes in the common equipment block and if concurrence takes place transferrence of the message signals between the coupled communication lines is effected.

    • There is disclosed a data transmission system comprising a first and a second loop transmission line for transferring data in its clockwise and counterclockwise directions, respectively. In each loop transmission line a plurality of transmission control units are connected in series. Further, a plurality of terminal units each are interconnected with its associated first and second transmission control units correspondingly and respectively located in the first and second loop transmission lines.     • In a digital transmission system wherein a plurality of transmission control units each of which has received data error detecting means, data storing means, receiving means and transmitting means are successively connected by a transmission medium, the transmission control unit is operated in a through mode in which received data is directely forwarded under a normal state, and when an error has been detected in received data, the operation mode of the transmission control unit is switched to a store-and-forward mode in which a group of received data are first stored and are thereafter forwarded only in the case of the absence of an error. When normal data have been continuously received in a predetermined number of times in the operation in the store-and forward mode, the operation mode of the transmission control unit is switched to the through mode.

    • This invention relates to a cellular type robot apparatus consisting of a plurality of robot cells each having intelligence, wherein each robot cell controls its own operation on the basis of information exchange with adjacent robot cells. The operations of the robot cells are as a whole coordinated, and each robot cell can be controlled without the necessity of change of hard- and soft-wares even when one or more of the robot cells are out of order or when the robot needs to be expanded. Each robot cell can be provided so that the robot can be increased or decreased in a building block arrangement. More definitely, each robot cell has arms corresponding to hands and feet, and is able to control its own operation. As the robot cells are connected and combined through transmission routes so as to be able to exchange information, they can operate cooperatively as a group to perform a manpulative action. The operation of the group of robot cells is designed also to constitute the shape of a predetermined pattern besides the operations of entwining an object, and gripping and moving the object.
