摘要： A display apparatus includes: a display panel; a light source unit which comprises a light source and has a plurality of division areas which are separated and independently driven each other, and is located at the back of the display panel; a drive unit which supplies drive power for the light source unit; and a light source controller which controls the drive unit so that the drive power can be supplied sequentially to the division areas which are divided in a first direction, in synchronization with a scanning period for which one frame of an image signal is displayed, and a lighting period of the division areas can be changed according to the kind of the image signal which is displayed on the display panel.

The 3D image display apparatus includes an image input unit which receives a 3D image, an image processing unit which divides the input 3D image into a left-eye image and a right-eye image and processes the left and right-eye images, an image output unit which comprises one sheet of polarization film which is capable of switching a direction of polarization, to provide a different direction of polarization with respect to the left and right-eye images being displayed, by switching the direction of polarization of the polarization film, and a control unit which controls the image output unit so that the left and right-eye images processed at the image processing unit are time-divided and displayed alternately. The display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel on which an image is displayed; a light guiding unit which is placed adjacent to the LCD panel and includes a plurality of light guide plates for guiding incident light to the LCD panel; a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) modules which are individually arranged at least one lateral side of the plurality of light guide plates and which emit light to the other lateral sides, respectively; and a video processor which changes brightness of an image displayed on a compensation area of the LCD panel that corresponds to an edge region of the light guide plate to compensate brightness at the edge region. The non-uniformity of the divided light guide plates is reduced.
