摘要： An aortic punch for creating an aortotomy in a wall of a luminal structure. The aortic punch includes a housing having distal and proximal ends, first and second plungers, a first return spring and a cutting assembly. The first plunger is movable relative to the housing to expose a barb from the distal end of the housing for piercing and catching the wall of the luminal structure. The first return spring biases the barb proximally toward the distal end of the housing such that the barb pulls the wall of the luminal structure into contact with the cutting assembly. The present disclosure also relates to a method of forming an aortotomy in a luminal structure.

摘要： A biopsy apparatus for obtaining tissue samples includes a housing, an elongated member slidably and rotatably mounted in the housing and a blade having a stem portion pivotally mounted on the elongated member and moving transversely relative to a longitudinal axis of the elongated member between a stowed position and a deployed position. A method of sampling tissue includes the steps of providing the biopsy apparatus, inserting the elongated member into a tissue mass, deploying the blade, severing a tissue sample from the tissue mass by proximally retracting and rotating the elongated member, removing the elongated member from the tissue mass and extracting the tissue sample from a patient.

摘要： A surgical instrument is provided for use in endoscopic or laparoscopic procedures. The instrument includes a handle portion, an endoscopic portion extending from the handle portion, an articulating section pivotably connected to a distal end portion of the endoscopic portion, and a retractor assembly operatively associated with the articulating section. Structure is provided for manipulating the articulating section relative to the longitudinal axis of the endoscopic portion within an angular degree of rotation. An injection port may also be provided to deliver fluids through the endoscopic portion to the operative site.

摘要： An endoscopic surgical instrument having a handle assembly, a body portion, and a tool mechanism in which a pivoting handle pivots about a stationary handle to open and close the tool mechanism. The instrument includes a rotatable body portion, in which a rotation knob is provided on the instrument at the stationary handle so that the user may rotate the body portion, and consequently the tool mechanism, using a single hand. Furthermore, an electrocautery connection is provided which is positioned out of the line of sight of the surgeon, so that the surgeon may have an unobstructed view to the surgical site. The pivoting handle is provided with a rotatable connection point for connecting the slidable rod member to essentially eliminate radial deflection of the rod within the outer tube during opening and closing of the handles. The tool mechanism may include grasping jaws having rounded, interdigitating teeth for grasping and securely holding tissue or organs for removal through a cannula.

The first filter element is disposed within the interior cavity of the housing and conditions fluid that traverses the first flow path from a first inlet port to a first outlet port. The second filter element is disposed within the interior cavity of the housing and conditions fluid that traverses the second flow path from a second inlet port to a second outlet port. Lastly, the third filter element is also disposed within the interior cavity of the housing and conditions fluid that traverses the third flow path from a third inlet port to a third outlet port. The first flow path is isolated from the second and third flow paths and the second flow path is isolated from the third flow path.

摘要： An endoscopic surgical instrument for aspiration and irrigation of a surgical site is disclosed. Connection ports for irrigation fluid and a suction source are provided which communicate with a single lumen cannula which transports both the irrigation fluid and the suction pressure to the surgical site. A valve mechanism having a novel valve stem and valve arrangement is also disclosed for providing higher pressure capabilities for the instrument. In one embodiment, the single lumen cannula is provided with a sliding sleeve to vary the pressure of the irrigation fluid to provide for high pressure application of the irrigation fluid to perform hydrodissection. The aspiration-irrigation instrument may also include electrocautery capabilities and a detachable cannula assembly for interchanging cannulas having different working tool members. In one embodiment, a sliding outer sleeve is also provided for selectively exposing the working tool members. An insertion port for reception of a surgical instrument which may be utilized with the suction and irrigation device during surgical procedures is also disclosed.

摘要： An apparatus and method for the biopsy of tissue specimens and, more particularly, a single insertion multiple sample percutaneous biopsy apparatus and method are provided. A tip at a distal end of a vacuum support tube is introduced into a tissue mass. The vacuum support tube is retracted exposing a basket tube bounded by a front washer and a rear washer mounted thereabout forming a tissue basket. The basket tube is supported internally by a thrust tube which provides structure to the apparatus to allow it to penetrate tissue. The thrust tube and the basket tube are in fluid connection and are provided with suction to draw tissue inward. The tissue is then severed by rotating and advancing a knife edge at the distal end of the vacuum support tube. The tissue basket is withdrawn and the tissue sample is removed by rotating the vacuum support tube. The tissue sample is sliced longitudinally, and a stripper scrapes the tissue sample from an opening in the vacuum support tube.
