    • A stopper for use in preventing any volume of gas from escaping from a drug container when used in connection therewith. The stopper has a body having a perimeter for slidable engagement with the interior of a drug receptacle; an outer surface; and an inner surface facing the bottom of the drug receptacle, the inner surface shaped so as to trap any volume of gas located within the drug receptacle when the body is slidably engaged therein. The invention is further directed to a drug container having a hollow body for holding a liquid. The body has an open end and a closed end. The container also has a stopper slidably received in the hollow body, and a feature for entrapping any volume of gas within the container.

    • The present invention provides a manual or automated device, system, and method for the monitoring and administration of fluids into a patient. The invention determines if a proper infusion site is being maintained by stopping the infusion fluid, creating a negative pressure differential between the device and the patient, and observing either manually or automatically the fluid being drawn into the device. The presence or absence of blood in the device is an indication of a failed or faulty infusion site depending on the condition being monitored. The system may also be used to inspect the patient's blood for certain characteristics, and to monitor the characteristics of the infusate being delivered to the patient. The invention may be used for either intermittent or continuous injection and may be used separately of other patient care devices, or integrated into or with them.

    • The invention provides a system for dispensing fluid at relatively constant pressure. In a first embodiment, the invention dispenses a fluid from a chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane. In a second embodiment, the invention dispenses a fluid from a chamber defined by a dispensing membrane, which is substantially surrounded by another fluid contained within a pressure chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane. In a third embodiment, the invention dispenses multiple fluids, a first fluid from a first dispensing chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane, and a second fluid from a dispensing chamber of varying dimension defined by a dispensing membrane substantially surrounded by the first fluid. In a fourth embodiment the invention dispenses multiple fluids from at least two dispensing chambers of varying dimension each substantially surrounded by the pressure fluid contained within a pressure chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane. In a preferred embodiment, the resilient membrane is pre-tensioned beyond the point at which, as fluid enters the volume contained by the membrane and the volume increases, the first derivative of pressure over volume becomes zero for the first time.
