摘要： An improved process for preparing an aromatic polyanhydride is disclosed. The aromatic polyanhydride is prepared by reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with an anhydride to form an anhydride prepolymer, isolating and purifying the prepolymer, and subjecting the prepolymer to melt polycondensation conditions. The improvement specifically relates to the purification of the acid so it is essentially free of impurities before it is reacted with the anhydride.The polymers prepared from the improved process have higher molecular weights than the molecular weights achieved from the prior art processes, and exhibit outstanding thermal stability and mechanical properties. This combination of properties allows the aromatic polyanhydrides to be melt processed to prepare numerous devices. In addition, these aromatic polyanhydrides are bioabsorbable, and this attribute in combination with its ability for melt processing makes the polyanhydrides particularly well-suited for the preparation of implantable surgical devices such as wound closure devices which are designed to absorb in the body when exposed to moist bodily tissue.

摘要： A dental syringe tip handpiece assembly includes a clear, plastic syringe tip mounted in an adaptor for connection to the handpiece. On the interior of the adaptor at a location adjacent the end of the syringe tip, a source of light is provided. Light from the light source will be transmitted down the length of the syringe tip and emitted from the end thereof. By positioning the end of the syringe tip in the patient's oral cavity, the dentist can provide illumination in the oral cavity so that various dental functions can be more easily and accurately performed. The adaptor can be made from clear, or at least translucent, material so that light from the light bulb will be transmitted through the adaptor and then into the syringe tip. A slot is provided on one end of the syringe tip for keying the syringe tip into the adaptor to properly align the syringe tip in the adaptor.

摘要： A game apparatus wherein players move along a playing path and make various electrical interconnections along the way. At any one given time only one space on the playing field contains an open switch coupled to a noise generating device. If a player lands on the selected space and closes the switch, a noise will sound and the player gets to keep toy money laid out on the playing field. A selection control unit randomly changes the position of the open switch on the game board each time it is found. As a result, a player never knows whether or not he or she is moving toward or away from the open switch. The selection control unit also eliminates previously used spaces from the random selection process. As such, the players know that once a space has been used and the money for that space has been taken, that space will not be selected again.

摘要： A dental syringe tip handpiece assembly includes a clear, plastic syringe tip mounted in an adaptor for connection to the handpiece. The source of light may also be a light bulb positioned at the rear of the adaptor. The adaptor is made from clear, or at least translucent, material so that light from the light bulb will be transmitted through the adaptor and then into the syringe tip. A special handpiece body formed of a handpiece inner unit and an outer cover is provided to receive the adaptor and syringe tip assembly. The air, water and fiberoptic lines are positioned inside the handpiece body. The handpiece body can be easily disassembled for cleaning. Alternatively one or more fiberoptic bundles are disposed through the handle of the syringe tip assembly with the ends of the fiberoptic bundle positioned adjacent the syringe tip so that light from the fiberoptic bundle can be transmitted through the syringe tip.

摘要： Various adaptors are used for securing a replaceable syringe tip in operative relationship to a handpiece body. The syringe tip is mounted on a tapered male connector set in the hollow interior of the adaptor. O ring seals and a metal flange member are used to prevent the leakage of air or water passing from the handpiece into the interior of the adaptor and then into the syringe tip. A captivated thumb nut is utilized to prevent the thumb nut from accidently disengaging completely from the adaptor. When the thumb nut is loosened to replace a syringe tip, the thumb nut will remain captivated on the adapter, only loosening enough to allow removal and insertion of a syringe tip.
