    • A lens-fitted photo film unit has a housing (2), in which a photo film roll chamber and a cassette containing chamber (8, 70) are formed. A cassette incorporates a port shutter (14) rotatable between a closed position of closing a photo film passage port and an open position of opening the passage port. The photo film is wound into the cassette as much as one frame each time one frame is exposed. The cassette is removed from the cassette containing chamber after winding the photo film entirely into the cassette. Through an exit opening, the cassette containing chamber is open externally. An openable bottom lid (7, 66, 75, 80) closes the exit opening, is opened for the removal of the cassette. A rotating mechanism (30, 76, 87, 93; 34, 78, 88, 90; 35, 50, 60, 72, 85) is engaged with the port shutter through a top wall (8a, 70a) of the cassette containing chamber, rotates the port shutter from the open position to the closed position in response to operation opening the bottom lid.

    • A shutter device includes a shutter blade for opening and closing a shutter opening and a stop plate having a small stop of a shutter opening. While the small stop is disposed on the shutter opening, the shutter blade swings from a primary position responding to operation of shutter release. After the shutter blade leaves the shutter opening, a flashlight is emitted. Thereafter, the stop plate swings sequentially such that the shutter opening may entirely appear, and then the shutter blade swing back to the primary position with covering the small stop.

    • A flash lever for actuating a flash switch is interlocked with a stop plate via a spring. When a picture is taken without a flash, photographing is performed in a state that a small stop opening of the stop plate is disposed at an optical path. When the flash lever is moved to an ON position in order to take a picture with the flash, the flash switch is turned on to activate a flash circuit and a photometry circuit. At this time, the stop plate is evacuated from the optical path so that photographing is performed only through a fixed stop opening. If luminance of a subject is large in this condition, an electric current is supplied to an electromagnet to pull an iron plunger therein for returning the stop plate to the original position. In virtue of this, photographing is performed through the small stop opening.

    • A lens-fitted photo film unit is pre-loaded with photo film (31). An exposure is taken through an exposure opening (43) upon depression of a shutter button (14) to a full depressed position. A halfway position of the shutter button is less deep than the full depressed position. A power source switch (44) is switched on upon movement of the shutter button to the halfway position. A photometric circuit (50, 60) receives light of an object, and for generating a changeover signal when brightness of the object is a predetermined brightness or more. The photometric circuit is rendered effective when the power switch is switched on. A changeover plate (46a) has a stop-down opening (46b) which is formed therein, and has a size smaller than the exposure opening. The changeover plate is movable between an inserted position and a retracted position. The stop-down opening of the inserted position is superposed on the exposure opening to intercept a periphery of the exposure opening. The stop-down opening of the retracted position is away from the exposure opening. The changeover plate is set in the inserted position upon occurrence of the changeover signal and in response to movement of the shutter button to the full depressed position from the halfway position. The changeover plate is set in the retracted position in absence of the changeover signal.

    • A lens-fitted photographic film unit has a flash device for emitting a flash of light. A charge switch is adapted to bring the flash device into an on-state, either by rotation of a film advancing wheel, or when a shutter device is cocked. When the flash device is in the on-state, a main capacitor is charged so as to allow emission of a flash of light. In a preferred embodiment, the charge switch is initially turned on so as to keep the flash device in the on-state. In another preferred embodiment, the flash device is in the on-state while the charge switch is on, and is in the off-state while the charge switch is off, in response to the shutter device. When the lens-fitted photographic film unit is contained in a wrapper, an insulating tape is inserted between a positive electrode of the battery and a contact segment. Upon the wrapper being torn off the lens-fitted photographic film unit, the insulating tape is pulled out of the lens-fitted photographic film unit, so as to bring the flash device into the on-state.

    • A lens-fitted photographic film unit has a film supply chamber preloaded with unexposed photographic film. A cassette-containing chamber contains a film cassette. The film after exposure is wound on a spool of the cassette. The film unit is provided with a mechanism for exposing the film in a succession of frames. An axial hole is formed in an upper end of the spool. Knurled inner teeth are formed inside the axial hole. A wind-up wheel is mounted on the film unit over the cassette-containing chamber to be externally operable for rotation. A drive shaft on the wind-up wheel protrudes into the cassette-containing chamber, and is received in the axial hole. Knurled outer teeth about the drive shaft mesh with the inner teeth on the spool. The drive shaft and spool will thus mesh with each other in any relatively rotated position thereof, which avoids loss of usable film.
