    • When a user steps on a footswitch, high-frequency output power is delivered. A control circuit included in a diathermic power supply calculates the impedance ZSn that is offered by a living tissue immediately after delivery of high-frequency output power is started during the n-th delivery period. The control circuit also calculates the impedance ZEn that is offered thereby immediately before delivery of high-frequency output power is discontinued with elapse of predetermined time. The control circuit then discontinues delivery of high-frequency output power for the predetermined time, and calculates a difference &Dgr;Zn between the impedances. When the difference meets a predetermined condition that implies coagulation or when the number of times of delivery reaches a predetermined value, the control circuit discontinues delivery of high-frequency output power.

    • An electrosurgical device for treating a body tissue with a high-frequency power includes an electrode for exposing the body tissue to the high-frequency power for treatment, and a high-frequency cautery power supply having a control circuit that outputs a high-frequency power generator for outputting the high-frequency power to the electrode. The control circuit of the high-frequency cautery power supply includes a timer for measuring output time and suspension time of the high-frequency power applied to the body tissue, a counting unit for counting the number of output of the high-frequency power, an impedance detector for detecting an impedance of the body tissue in the coagulated state thereof when the body tissue is treated using the high-frequency power applied from the electrode, an impedance comparator for comparing the impedance of the coagulated tissue detected by the impedance detector with an impedance predetermined for the purpose of the treatment of a region to be treated, and a high-frequency power switch for switching the output of the high-frequency power generator.

    • In a resectscope apparatus of the present invention, by using an output from a second output transformer, high frequency current passes through a treating electrode when the treating electrode is in contact with a living tissue in a conductive liquid. Then, the high frequency current flows between the treating electrode and a return electrode. Thus, the treating electrode generates heat. Bubbles are formed from the conductive liquid on the peripheral surface of the treating electrode and cover the treating electrode. Interlelectrode resistance increases from a resistance and becomes higher resistance to a substantially insulating state. Then, the voltage increases, and discharging occurs between the treating electrode and the living tissue. By using the high frequency current from the discharging, the living tissue is treated.
