    • An analytical element for analysis of a liquid having an interconnected void structure zone positioned on one side of a liquid-impermeable, light-transmissive support, being characterized in that said interconnected void structure zone comprises a bound particulate structure which is a three-dimensional lattice, being non-swellable in the liquid and having interconnected voids with a void volume of 25 to 85% among the particles to provide transport of said liquid, the material for said bound particulate structure being non-swellable in and impermeable to said liquid and said bound particulate structure being constituted of heat-stable, organic polymer particle units having reactive groups with particle sizes of 1 to 350 microns which are chemically bonded directly to each other through said reactive groups in the areas of contact. A method of analysis utilizing the analytical element in immunoassay is also disclosed.

    • An analytical element which comprises (a) a light-transmissive and liquid-impermeable support, (b) at least one reagent layer containing at least one reagent reactive with a component in a liquid sample and being constituted of a hydrophilic colloid, and (c) at least one developing layer of a fibrous structure being positioned on said reagent layer on the side opposite to said support for permitting the component in said liquid sample to permeate therethrough toward said reagent layer and having been formed by coating said reagent layer with a dispersion comprising an organic macromolecular polymer having reactive groups and a fibrous material.

    • An improved multilayer analytical element for the determination of calcium comprising a liquid impermeable, optically transparent support; at least one reagent layer positioned with a first side on said support and containing at least one reagent capable of reacting with a calcium component in a fluid sample; and at least one porous developing layer on the second side of said reagent layer, said porous developing layer being permeable to calcium from said fluid sample thereby transporting said calcium to said reagent layer. The improvement comprises at least one of said reagent layer and developing layer containing a basic substance of the formula M.sub.v H.sub.w PO.sub.4 .multidot.ZH.sub.2 O wherein M is lithium, sodium or potassium; v is an integer of 2 or 3 and w is an integer of 0 or 1 provided that v plus w equals 3; and Z is 1/2 when M is lithium, 0, 2 or 12 when M is sodium and 0 or 8 when M is potassium; and said reagent layer contains (i) 3,3'-bis[N,N-di(carboxymethyl)aminomethyl]-o-cresolphthalein and (ii) 8-hydroxyquinoline or a derivative thereof.
