    • An electronic device includes a carriage conveyance unit, a sheet conveyance unit, a failure detection unit, a position detection unit, and a jam determination unit. The carriage conveyance unit includes a motor and conveys a carriage in a main scanning direction by a driving force of the motor. The sheet conveyance unit conveys a sheet in a sub-scanning direction which crosses the main scanning direction in which the carriage is conveyed. The failure detection unit detects a conveyance failure of the carriage. The position detection unit detects a position of the carriage in the main scanning direction. The jam determination unit determines whether or not the conveyance failure is due to jamming caused by interference between the carriage and the sheet, based on the position of the carriage detected by the position detection unit at a time when the conveyance failure is detected by the failure detection unit.

    • In an image reading apparatus, a retreat control device moves a conveyance target through a conveyance mechanism, when a stop operation is performed by a stop control device, in an opposite direction to an image reading direction to a position further from a restart reference position set by a position setting unit. A reading control device again moves the conveyance target, which has been moved by the retreat control device, at a constant speed in the image reading direction under a predetermined condition; inputs a line start signal to a reading unit when an offset time set by a time setting unit has elapsed from a time point when the conveyance target reaches the restart reference position; and periodically inputs a line start signal to thereby cause the reading unit to perform a reading operation from a point; where the reading unit is located when the offset time has elapsed.

    • An inkjet recording apparatus of a serial recording type which comprises a recording head, a carriage and a conveying device. The recording head is capable of selectively ejecting ink toward a recording medium. The carriage with the recording head mounted thereon reciprocatingly moves in specified directions. The conveying device intermittently conveys the recording medium in a direction perpendicular to the specified directions when the recording head does not eject ink. An image is recorded on the recording medium by repeatedly performing, in turn, movement of the carriage and ejection of ink by the recording head, and intermittent conveyance of the recording medium by the conveying device. The inkjet recording apparatus also includes a vibration applying device that vibrates at least one of the recording medium and the recording head when the recording head ejects ink toward the recording medium while the carriage is being moved.

    • A motor control method is provided in which a cycle between at least one of leading edges and trailing edges of a pulse signal is measured. The pulse signal is outputted from a pulse signal generator which generates a pulse signal every time a driven target is driven for a specified distance by a motor. A driving velocity of the driven target is calculated from the measured edge cycle. A manipulated variable of the motor is calculated such that the calculated driving velocity corresponds to a specified target velocity, and the motor is driven and controlled based on the manipulated variable. The driving velocity is replaced with a specified set velocity that is lower than the target velocity, when no output of edges from the pulse signal generator continues for and over a specified replacement determination time while the motor is driven and controlled.
