    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser therapy apparatus, a laser therapy system and an assessment method, which assess the state of laser contact including a state in which a distal end of a laser catheter is buried in the tissue.SOLUTION: The laser therapy apparatus includes: a connection part 210 to which a second end of a laser catheter 300 is connected, the laser catheter having a first end and the second end, emitting and admitting laser beams from the distal end face of the first end, and having electrodes provided along the axial direction of the first end on the outer periphery of the first end; an emission part 110 that emits the laser beam to the second end connected to the connection part; an optical state detecting part 130 that admits returning light from the second end connected to the connection part and detects the optical state of the admitted returning light; an electrical state detecting part 135 that detects the electrical state of the electrodes via the second end connected to the connection part; and an assessing part 150 that assesses, on the basis of the detected optical state and electrical state, the contact state of the first end and the tissue to be treated using the laser catheter.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discrimination device capable of safely discriminating the contact state of the distal end part of a catheter to the tissue in real time.
      SOLUTION: A photodynamic therapy device 1 as the discrimination device irradiates the tissue incorporating a photosensitive chemical which absorbs excitation light and emits fluorescence or the tissue which absorbs the excitation light and emits the fluorescence with the excitation light from the distal end part of a laser catheter 300, and includes a connector 210, a light source 110, and a photodetection part 130. To/from the connector 210, the laser catheter 300 is attachable and detachable. The light source 110 outputs the excitation light to the laser catheter 300 through the connector 210. The photodetection part 130 detects the intensity of the fluorescence made incident from the laser catheter 300 through the connector 210 in order to discriminate the contact or non-contact of the distal end part of the laser catheter 300 to the tissue.

The photodynamic therapy is performed on the surface layer of the target tissue for therapy by: having the cooling device cool the surface of the target tissue for therapy in which a photodynamic therapeutic agent is present; reducing the binding rate of the photodynamic therapeutic agent present in the surface layer of the target tissue for therapy and serum protein by cooling; increasing the ratio of the free photodynamic therapeutic agent on the surface of the target tissue for therapy; and having the light beam irradiation device irradiate the target tissue for therapy with the light beam.
